Samuel was found on Ritammeron because the Crew needed an experienced guide to safely bring them through the planet's mountain regions. Samuel agreed to help because Bjorn said if Samuel helped him that he would ensure safe passage for him and his family off Ritammeron instead of dying along with the doomed planet being overcome by Necrons awakening beneath the surface.
