Blood Mithral

While returning from an expedition to the Deep Dark, an adventuring party came across a concealed mineshaft containing the aged skeletons of several dwarven miners, dead from unknown causes. Under this mass grave, the metal that the dwarves had been extracting was changed, speckled with crimson veins from soaking in the blood of the fallen workers. This was the first discovery of blood Mithral, and the dark process of its creation became darker over the centuries.
