Hardnut

Hardnuts grow on the Hardnut trees of central Ofica. They are common south of Mount Origin, from Shamsi-Adad to The Dragon Coast.
Hardnuts are incredibly durable. Due to the mineral profile of the soil the tree prefer, the nuts develop an extremely hard shell. This prevents animals and monstrosities from getting to the delicious soft inner parts of the seed. The shells open slightly after spending 81 days submerged in dirt and water, and the discarded shell pieces are so resistant to damage they are use for everything from helmets to bowls to building and more.
Averaging from the size of a small pebble and growing to the twice the size of a Human head means adventurers will know when they've come across such a nut.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Hardnut meat is said to make warriors feel more durable in battle. This is a result of the hardness of the shell; they've become a symbol to rally troops in difficult times.
The shell itself of the hardnut tree can't be cracked open before it is ready to sprout without the use of adamantine tools made for the job.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Hardnuts have adamantine particles absorbed from the soil deposited in the shell. This makes them somewhat resistant to destruction. They have resistance to bludgeoning damage.

History & Usage

History

Hardnuts have historically been used as helmets or hard hats for commoners in central Ofica. Attempts to grow the plant in other areas failed, producing a softer, more bitter nut.

Everyday use

The most common use is taking half a shell and simply placing it on the head with a leather strap that hangs over the top. This strap is not affixed to the shell, allowing the strap to be used on any hardnut shell you come across.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Hard Nuts are seeds from trees descended from the sacred tree in the Hidden Gardens of the Ancient Wood. An elven helmet made from the Hard Nut shell is a sign of dedication among the Chokurri.
