Backstory

Koss's parents, Aedric and Ysilda Silvertrove, work in Ravnica as local dwarven representatives of the Silvertrove Clan's craftsmen, away from the clan's ancestral mountain city of Yorgenvald. Locally, they work with the Izzet League heavily and have been official members for about 10 years. They are what other changelings call "passers", in that they try to live their entire lives under their chosen identities. Changelings tend to not be very well trusted, and so by maintaining their guise, they hope to provide the family with a stable and comfortable life.
Koss initially was okay with being "Aedrin Silvertrove", but eventually found themselves yearning more and more to be somebody closer to their authentic self. As they grew up, they would experiment with various forms of artistic expression -- painting, music, dance. Eventually, they found these methods weren't enough of an outlet, and began surreptitiously experimenting with their appearance, changing their face and body to all kinds of different features as suited their fancy, as well as taking chances to meet and hang out with all kinds of different people while disguised to find things that they enjoyed.
This worried the Silvertroves, as experimenting like that could be dangerous to their family if they were found out. After Koss was accidentally spotted mid-change by a guild engineer at a work party, their parents decided they needed to curtail the potential changeling panic that could ensue. They eventually decided send Koss away from the city to let things calm down, and also to give them some room to experiment more freely. After pulling some strings with the Izzet League for a letter of reference and a nicely written personal essay, Koss was accepted to Strixhaven University at the young age of 18, where they can explore and find themself in a safer environment.
