The Idran empire has not always been the behemoth that it is today. It started at the capital city of Oja and spread outwards in conquest. Not that most Idrans would be willing to discuss this martial past today. No, modern Idrans are a principled lot with refined sensibilities, and they would rather overlook the wars that fueled their expansion.
Modern Idra is a peaceful area that spreads from Oja's high seat in the mountains to the banks of the Jecal river at Brana. There are those with more and less resources, but generally people have food, jobs, and time for leisure. The magic of music is highly regulated. Despite this, Academy musicians are plentiful and varied, so most Idrans can obtain magic when they need it.
Government
The Idrans are rather fond of their monarch, Aaron Napvir, even though he has very little in the way of real power these days. The kindly figurehead has been ruling the country for 32 years at this point. His quirks are comfortable and endearing. His family is well known. He has a way of setting the provinces at ease.
The real power of government is vested in the republic, which makes laws and would conduct a war were such things necessary. Most of the time, they spend dithering about what would make the best new holiday though, as the founders of the Idran empire were very specific in how they wanted the empire to be run. There is a committee of the republic that is quite busy, however, and that is the judiciary. There are frequent cases brought to their attention by the sometimes overzealous Dyra, the magical law enforcement. The Dyra are always on the lookout for people that are abusing music, and are free with passing out citations.
