Parro and the Bird

Once upon a time, there were birds that could mimic human song. These fantastical creatures were called parrots and they lived in the jungles of Jofi.

Summary

One day, a native of the village of Brana named Parro was walking in the Jofi jungle harvesting Jofi Fern. He had many ferns tied together and was heading home at the end of the day. Through the trees, he saw a strange sight as if there were dancing lights among the trees. Intrigued, he put down his ferns in a shaded spot that was off of the pathway. He walked closer to the small clearing as if mesmerized.    Inside the clearing, Parro saw that the lights were dancing around a particular tree that was across the way. In the tree, he spied a bird that was singing as if with a human voice. He recognized the song. It was one that his sister used to sing to the children of the village to entertain them while there parents were elsewhere seeing to their duties. He looked around the clearing to see if Fia was walking in the clearing or the jungle behind. He searched around the trees but could find nobody beside the bird.    Blinking he realized that the bird might be able to copy human song. He decided to sing a small melody that he used when cutting the fern. The bird seemed to stare right at him and then repeated the song perfectly. A leaf on the branch it was sitting on fell to the floor. Parro returned to the village to share the news. At first the villagers didn't believe him, but over the next few days others that were harvesting ferns had the same experience.    The villagers named the bird a parrot after the one that found them. Some legends claim that the villagers went on to tame the parrots and bring them into their homes as pets.
