Legions' traditions

Despite the many changes that have taken place in their organization over time, the legions have continued to exist for millennia, thus creating a corpus of peculiar traditions, with different variations among the various legions. Obviously many of these traditions are linked to war and barracks life, as well as several variations have been introduced due to the particularities of each place. Because of the long period of levy, which historically was even up to twenty years, the legions and their camps often became communities of their own, almost semi-independent villages from the rest of the empire. Although it is no longer so, some traditions have remained. For example, although the barracks have been reorganized more efficiently, they often contain shops of various types, as well as post offices, libraries, brothels and others, all in the hands of the army, and often under the direct control of the base commander . One of the most awaited events is the arrival of recruits, as there is a strong tradition of hazing, although over time it has greatly mitigated. Recruits often find themselves having to undergo, in addition to regular training, also various forms of harassment by older soldiers, who often use recruits for various corvée services, even those that would not be within their competence, as well as being subjected to various humiliations such as having to perform all the basic services naked or wearing only underwear. One way to avoid all this is to challenge the comrade in charge, and be able to roll it out. This however is not easy, as the comrades are often veterans and career soldiers, so they have a training and a superior experience compared to the recruits. But sometimes it is enough to show enough spirit to be exempt from abuse, even if it depends a lot on the general mood. In general, each legion performs ceremonies on the anniversary of its foundation and major victories, although many also perform ceremonies to remember the worst defeats. Although the tone and the details vary a lot from time to time, often everything ends up with a large quantity of alcohol that is used to celebrate or to forget.
