The War of the Eagle (Aquila Bellum)

The War of the Eagle, fought between the Roman Empire and the Persian Empire, is the most recent major conflict, and it is estimated to have cost more than 10 million lives in all. The conflict arose because of the disputed control of the Aquila system, which was claimed by both the Roman and Persian empires. Despite initial attempts to resolve the conflict through diplomatic channels, in 3189 A.U.C. War broke out, which, according to international treaties, should have been carried out exclusively in the contested system. Despite the fact that most of the clashes actually took place in the Aquila system, there were also several that took place elsewhere, both on planet Earth and in the solar system. The forces sent for the Roman Empire were the II Solaris, VI Flammata and X Ferrea space fleets; and the legions III Augusta, IX Leo, X Sagittarius, XIX Rubra and the Legio Lemorum. The conflict took place in three distinct phases: in the first the fleets were sent, together with the legions to the Aquila system, however, since the Persian Empire was also sending their fleets to that system the first clashes took place in the solar system, near the tunnel; the second phase was composed of clashes in space and on Palatinus in the Aquila system, with proofs of great valor and terrible ferocity on both sides, such as when the Legio Lemorum resisted alone on the planet against the onslaught of three enemy corps without supplies, being reduced to a quarter of the staff until reinforcements arrive; the last phase instead began in the fourth year of the conflict, when the main impetus was exhausted, and was conducted mainly by special forces, with various sabotage operations mainly on Earth and in the solar colonies. After 10 years, in 3199 A.U.C. the war ended, with the confirmation of the possession of the Aquila system to the Roman empire, and the cession of part of the Mesopotamian territories to the Persian empire. This recent conflict, however, is still very much felt among the population, and many are clamoring for a new war to reconquer the territories lost.
