Tale of Dark Lord Plagueis

"Did you ever hear the tragedy of Dark Lord Plagueis the Wise?"
"No."
"I thought not. It's not a story the bards would sing of. It's a tale of the dark arts. Dark Lord Plagueis... was a powerful sorceress, so skilled and so wise that she could use her magic to bend the threads of life... to create... new life. She had such mastery over the dark arts, she could even keep those she loved... from dying."
"She could actually... save people from death?"
"The dark arts are a path to many abilities... some consider to be cursed.
"What happened to her?"
"She became so powerful, the only thing she feared was... losing her power. Which eventually, of course, she did. Unfortunately, she took in a child who had been orphaned by war and taught them everything she knew. Then, in a fit of jealousy and anger, the child used the very magic she had taught them to kill her in her sleep. It's a cruel irony. She could save others from death, but not herself."
"Is it possible to learn this power?"
"Some say it is possible, but only at great cost. Many have sought it, but few have succeeded. Those who do often find that the power consumes them, leading them down a dark path from which they can never return."
