Badges for Ransom

Not long after the Adventure Revolution and the establishment of Adventure Academy which awarded graduation with Adventurer's Badges, a gang formed in Skygst. It was the Nightmare Gang, and they made their living off of adventurers weak and strong. They had multiple operations, they would be mercenaries, sabotaging quests for money, or robbers, laying in wait near a quest givers home to rob the earnings, but their main source of income was that of badges.   When an adventurer lost a badge, they would need to redo school to get a new one and start again from level 1. The Nightmare gang would get cruel amusement out of ambushing adventurers, robbing them of their badges. Then, they would leave them a ransom note. A place and a prize. This would be knows as badgenapping. The higher the level of the badge, the higher the prize, as returning to school would be a much more of a bother to someone at gold level than someone at cupper level.   The gang remained active in this business for many generations, occationally moving headquarters within Skygst and with many changes in leadership over time. The gang became increasingly more aggressive, and strong members would take on stronger and stronger adventurers. In the beginning the gang attacked mainly intruders to Skygst, but was soon sending out Parties to all of Ropla.   When the gang was at its highest, the Adventurer's Guild decided that enough was enough. A conflict broke out between the guild and the gang where no one was safe on the roads and headquarters and bases of the gang were tracked and destroyed by the guild.   In the end, the gang was dissolved. With the gang out of the way, new smaller groups took up badge ransomming, but never at that scale.
