Roshar

The Stormlight Archive occurs in a multiverse known as The Cosmere, predominately on a planet called Roshar. The world of Roshar consists of a single super-continent plus numerous archipelagos and singular islands. Life on Roshar has been molded and formed by unusual climatic systems dominated by The Highstorms which are planet scale hurricanes powerful enough to throw boulders the size of a horse and cart.   The peoples of Roshar are many and varied. From the tough and warlike Alethi of the East, the jovial of the Reshi Isles, the sedate of the Purelake to the reclusive of Shinovar, they are aligned into many nations and religions.   All these differences bring conflict amongst the various factions. However, these wars and skirmishes are nothing compared to The Desolations of the deep past. Cataclysmic and recurring wars of extermination between the peoples of Roshar against the forces of evil gods which left the world in ruin. So many died in The Desolations that each time humanity was left on the brink of extinction. Losing so many lead to the loss of wisdom and science. Many fields of study were so decimated that none were left to pass on what they learned to future generations.   However, thankfully, 4,500 years ago forces of The Almighty lead the peoples of Roshar to final victory in The Last Desolation. The Heralds were, at long last, able to return to their true calling. Forging ahead at the behest of The Almighty to reclaim the Tranquiline Halls and bring forth everlasting peace and prosperity.
