The Midspring Festival

It's the day before the Festival and booths were already being set up. People bustled everywhere, jostling you as you tried to finish the platform for the music show. Your mallet missed it's mark and found your thumb instead. "Ouch!" the exclamation was out of your mouth before you could stop it. With some difficulty, you finished the stage and packed away your tools. Sometime, being a hired woodworker didn't pay off. At least you'll be able to enjoy the Midspring festival starting tomorrow.   Someone crashed into you dressed in a green cloak and holding a basket. The impact sent you staggering.   "Oh, Keren," the person mumbled before moving off quickly, leaving you to gather your scattered tools. A frown crossed your face. Whoever that was didn't speak Rothrian, the language of Asteri. But, what did it matter? People from many different places came to celebrate this week.  The next day was the festival! You rose early in the morning with the rest of your family and made your way from the inn you were staying at in the village to the green right outside of the castle. Already it was full of people and more were still coming. Lively music filled the air coming from the musicians stationed near the royal seats. Fresh bread, baked in the nearby bakeries were laid out on tables and meat roasted over some fires to provide the visitors with food to eat. There were jugs of water and ale out with cups in long rows. The strong smell of flowers also filled the air as you passed a stall filled with bouquets of flowers.  The first few days people would just wander around the Festival, buying trinkets or memoirs or playing games. After that, the next two days would be full of competitions for both men, women, and children. For the first of the last two days, to celebrate those who had fought to win the freedom of Asteri, the people would be silent. Not going out to play or do anything, but talk quietly inside the houses or inns. The events on the very last day, however, are what people looked forward to the most. There would be a big feast held in the castle courtyard for the villagers while the lord, ladies, and nobility would meet in the great hall inside. Ale would be served, provided by the castle, and food would be laid out on long tables.

History

The Festival has been held for as long as Asteri has been around. As year by year would go by, it gradually would grow bigger and bigger till it no longer could be held inside the castle walls. They instead moved it onto the field by the castle where there was plenty of room for all the festivities.

Participants

The king and royal family are present, so is the Commodore in disguise and several lords of Asteri.

Observance

The Festival takes place in the month of Mai, the sixth month of the calendar. Since the event lasts a whole week, the Asterians normally try to put it at the beginning of the month.
Keren (Key ren): Mevel for sorry.
