The Prime Target
I'm a thief in your world and so far I've never been caught. Who's my next target?
A man dressed in ragged clothes sidled up to you and leaned against the store, mirroring your position.
"I heard tha' ye were asking questions earlier in th' Thieves' den. Didn't get many answers there, did ye? Well, I'm here to help ye a little."
"Thanks, I could use the hel-"
His rough laugh interrupted you and he shook his head. "I'm only telling ye who ye can go after, not how to do it. Ye'll have to figure tha' out on yer own."
A frown crossed your face. "Then why are you here? I'll leave if you don't start talking soon."
In contrast to your dark look, he smiled. "Ye won't leave if ye want good business."
He was right. You needed the work and were new in this country, Asteri. Answers were what you wanted and apparently the only person you could get them from was from the smug man in front of you.
"Okay. Talk then. Where can I find the best deals?"
"The Mayor or judge is always a good place to start, but those are for the experienced." The man looked you up and down. "If ye want something easier, the gold and silversmiths are a good place to start, or the precious metals dealer. But if ye do something like that, be ready to skip town right quick."
"Is that all?"
"No, of course there's the odd craftsmen that might have more than usual, but it's mainly learning to keep you eyes open."
"Right." You nod. "Thanks for the pointers." Turning your gaze back to the marketplace, you notice the town watch pushing through the crowd towards you and, quick as a cat, you slip into a dark alley way and disappear from their sight.
