Metis (/mɛtɪs/)
Knowledge Center of Ruartei
Metis is a central star system, an inaugural member of the Grand Society, and home of the Great Library. Uninterested in participating in interstellar power struggles, Metis maintains a neutral and understated presence within Grand Society even though it is widely known and venerated throughout Ruartei for its production of highly profitable craftwork and innovative information system technology.
Astrography
Metis contains four major population centers (2 planets, 1 moon, 1 space station), a portal communication center, a system defense center with several garrison bases, a technology center, artisan manufacturing centers (textiles, woodcraft, beadcraft), an agricultural center, a trade and transportation center, some minor warp paths, and the Great Library.
Population Centers
Asvoria, the capital planet and technological center of Metis, possesses the largest population of the star system.
Thetis, a mist-shrouded planet and the artisan center of Metis, possesses an abundance of bioluminescent lifeforms and the second largest population of the star system.
Ismene, a large space station orbiting Asvoria, houses the Great Library and enough permanent staff (and their families) to populate a full-fledged metropolis.
Daira, a moon orbiting Thetis, possesses several moderately size communities, the main garrison base of Metis, and the Motherhouse of the Order of Lyahki.
Notable Orbitals
Eldora Portal and Eldora Station, located near each other and between Asvoria and Thetis, provide interstellar communication for the entire star system. In addition, Eldora Station provides extensive docking and storage facilities for interstellar shipping and transportation.

Notes
Origin of Name (Earth)
Ancient Greek. One of the Oceanids and the deity of wisdom and deep thought, Metis was the advisor and first wife of Zeus. Originally, her name meant “magical cunning” but this evolved into “wise counsel.” She helped Zeus overthrow his father, Cronus, and then later, after being tricked and swallowed by Zeus, birthed and raised their daughter, Athena, in Zeus’ head.
