Inscrutable Staff

The Inscrutable Staff is the badge of office of the Archmage of the Inscrutable Tower. Not only did this Archmage rule the tower, but they were also a member of the Royal Council of Westemar. As part of an ancient contract that pre-dates the formation of Westemar as we know it today, the von Drakkens gave the Amethyst Academy land in the city to construct their Inscrutable Tower and a seat on the council. In exchange, the Academy created many magical items and placed many wards on Castle Drakken. They created a magical item for each member of the Royal Council, known as the Seals of Drakkenheim. The Inscrutable Staff is one such item. 

No one knows the current location of the Inscrutable Staff. It was lost the day the meteor fell and the last Archmage of Drakkenheim died. It's a good bet that it is in the Inscrutable Tower, but the tower is shattered and its base is shrouded in Deep Haze.

History

Long ago, the Amethyst Academy created seven magical items for the von Drakken royal family and their council. The Inscrutable Staff was one of those items and was held by the Archmage of the Inscrutable Tower. Historically, the royal councilors would participate in the coronation ritual when a new ruler of Westemar was crowned. With the fall of the meteor and the city covered in The Haze, these relics have been lost.

Significance

The Inscrutable Staff was carried by the Archmage of the Inscrutable Tower until he died on the Day of the Meteor. It is also one of the Seals of Drakkenheim.

Raw materials & Components

The staff is made from Elf Ash, a tree that only grows in Elvish ruins. The wood used in this staff came from the depths of Brachenwald.
