Summer Camp Pledge 2022

Goals

Creative goal

I want to work on my RPG setting. This year I am primarily focusing on my take on the Drakkenheim setting. I will be starting a one player game at the end of the month. My friend and I both backed the kickstarter for this setting and we really want to play, but busy lives of adults mean it has been difficult scheduling the game he is running with four to six players. My solution: he plays in my game as the only player. It's much easier to schedule for only two people. The challenge is running for a DM who also has access to the setting. I will have to make quite a few changes to make things fresh and exciting for him.

Motivation

I am passionate about playing D&D and about this setting. Plus I finally get the chance to run an in person game!

Challenge Goal

I have participated in a few writing challenges now, but I never get very far in them. Such is my busy life of DM, nurse, father of three, and attentive partner. I think a realistic goal would be Bronze level. If I achieve this, I'll aim for Silver.

Themes

The themes of this year's summer camp are: expanse, leadership, discovery, and monstrous. I'm not sure yet how to incorporate the theme of expanse yet, but I have some ideas about the other themes. The theme of leadership could both refer to the leaders of the factions and the player's role in deciding the final outcome for Drakkenheim. Discovery is a central theme of the campaign setting as the players explore the ruins. The delerium and the creatures it creates are monstrous.

Writing Time

I work nights and sometimes I have downtime at work. When I was in school, I used that downtime to work on homework, but this year I'm going to use it to write for this challenge. I also have most weekends off, so I'll use the weekend to catch up on any prompts that I've gotten behind in.

Support

I have a wonderful guy I've just met and he's very supportive of my endeavors here. So he'll be giving me a lot of encouragement.
