Rumble in Old Denver

In the year 2127, a series of simultaneous detonations occurred across the city of Denver, Colorado, turning the sprawling city and surrounding areas into devastated wasteland in a matter of seconds. Many of the explosives used were nuclear, and the ensuing fallout ensured that any recovery efforts would be slow and costly. Corporate rivalry and infighting stifled the ability of the various Megacorporations to move in quickly and rebuild the many research facilities in Denver, leaving underground labyrinths buried beneath the rubble. What is uninhabitable to some is a bastion of freedom and opportunity to others, however, and soon the ruins of Old Denver were being claimed by warring groups of Scavs utilizing environmentally sealed hard suits and mechs to attack Corpo deployments and each other in a gritty war for turf and salvage. It was a hard life, but for a while it was free of the omnipresent pressure of corporate greed and lucrative for those who had the occasional lucky find.   On June 17th, 2129, an Old Denver Scav going by the moniker of Rumbler decided to upload cam footage of a clash between two gangs in a turf skirmish to the local pubnet. It went viral overnight and Corpo interests immediately smelled blood in the proverbial water. Before long, Scav gangs were being approached with lucrative sponsorship offers and mech skirmishes were being streamed as a new global entertainment. Overnight Old Denver had gone from a drifter settlement to an irradiated gladiator arena. More robust settlements were built with proper rad shielding and new faces arrived seeking to make a name for themselves in the gang wars, but Old Denver remains as lawless as ever. Now, mech crews seeking fortune and glory must juggle the potential for lucrative salvage, corporate machinations, dangerous rivals, and communities of drifters just looking for an escape.   Rumble in Old Denver is an alternate setting for the Lancer RPG, transitioning the game from post-scarcity science fiction to a brutal dystopia with cyberpunk and post apocalyptic motifs. Play as the pilot of a powerful mobile weapons platform known as a mech and use your skills, cunning, and devastating weaponry as you attempt to survive a hostile wasteland, cut-throat corporate politics, and high-adrenaline turf wars. Fame and fortune are yours for the taking as you rumble in Old Denver.
