Rumor Zero

AbadarCorp’s "Rumor Zero'' project was simple: Dispatch a colony vessel - the Sun Bastion - to settle a newly discovered dwarf planet in the Diaspora, expand resource-acquisition, and create a new trade-lane to the Pact Worlds. Everything went according to a carefully laid plan.   Right up until the Drift Crisis occurred.   With the Drift Crisis causing the Sun Bastion to be ripped out of the Drift and crashing into an unknown planet somewhere in The Vast, the survivors were left with a curious predicament: Any means of travel back home - wherever home was to them - was now entirely out of the question. In the days and weeks that followed, the surviving crew and myriad passengers (who dubbed themselves 'Crashers') learned they would be stranded on this world for quite some time and were left to pick through the wreckage and attempt to carve out something resembling a settlement. That settlement adopted the name of the AbadarCorp project with which the ship was dispatched: Rumor Zero.   Rumor Zero was naturally crafted around the fallen gardenship, which itself began to slowly decay and die much to the chagrin of its ritually bonded crew. The hydroponics gardens were stripped of anything that could serve as practical agriculture, and any salvageable technology was removed and repurposed, for better or worse. All that remained of the gardenship was its slowly browning leaves and the empty shell which became a sort of "plaza" in the center of the hastily built colony.   It didn't take long for several quirks to arise: The settlement’s layout follows a precise geometry, but the streets seem to be numbered or named at random. The settlement enforced a strict curfew for the protection of the marooned survivors, which in turn gave rise to several tiny hamlets and establishments operating just outside of it. In the middle of the settlement stands an archway that occasionally (and harmlessly) flashes with magical energy and was apparently charged by a Lashunta Mystic, though since his disappearance, no-one knows the purpose of this odd flashing.   A few weeks of construction and limited exploration went by. Just as the settlement was starting to become somewhat tangible for the Crashers, they discovered an inconvenient truth of this world: Unpredictable, severe weather cut the settlement off from the outside world. Large swathes of the region surrounding the settlement are left devastated in the wake of these storms, making resource gathering all the more unreliable.   The Crashers knew now that life here would be difficult.
