Old Ones

The Old Ones are said to be as old as Runetalras itself, and truly ageless in their form. Some claim that before the mortal races worshipped deities they venerated the Old Ones, cruel but active forces which in return for worship and sacrifice provide mortals with power and assistance that can make the difference between life and death. The Ages where these creatures and forces received widespread worship has long since died, but small pockets of Runetalras still pay worship and sacrifice to them to survive their harsh conditions.

Forms

The Old Ones are not a specific species of creatures instead they are believed to the embodiment of natural forces and spirits, as well as ancient creatures that have grown beyond the powers of mortals and aspire to worship and divinity.

Patrons

The Old Ones are active throughout Runetalras, and are keen to take up new worshippers and agents to spread their influence and cults. Some are imprisoned seeking freedom, other more worshipers to grow in power, while still other have more eldritch and unknowable aims

Known Old Ones

Due to their nature the Old Ones are little known to those outside their worshippers and communities, as their motivations, below are a few of those known:   The Crones of the Isles - believed to be creatures that have ascended beyond their hag forms into something more.   The Great Leviathan - said to be the old creature of seas, imprisoned by who coveted its power, the Leviathan seeks freedom once more.   The Whispering Wood - Thought to be a forest brough alive, conscious and cruel the Whispering Wood is the embodiment of the dark heart of nature.
