The necklace

I reach up to my neck, the cool metal feels nice against my skin as I find what I am looking for.
It's power makes my fingers tingle and I can't help but smile.
"The little saint seeks this" I tell Mikhail, "as does my father, but neither know that I still have it." 
"But why, mama?" He asks quizzicaly, "it's yours, isn't it?" 
In response, I take hold of his hand, "can you feel the power?" I ask him when his fingers touch the metal, "it was a gift from a saint, the last of her life to keep our people safe."

History

It was a gift from Valentina's saintly mother on her birthday, she worked on perfecting the delicate design for months before it was ready. 
Valentina has worn it every day since, she doesn't quite understand how it is meant to keep the Faeris safe, only that it has transcended into mythology and is highly sought after even among her own friends and family who are unaware that she holds onto it.

Significance

It was the last gift that Valentina's mother ever gave her, on one side is the seal of her mother's noble family, on the other is an intricate etching of a mythical creature (no one can say for certain which), around the edge is her mother's name. One that is known now as the name of a saint.
