The Tale of the Kolobok

The tale of the Kolobok is very similar in structure to that of the gingerbread man. It is about a Kolobok (a sweetdough roll) that runs away from the baboushka and dadoushka who baked it, and then from a Rabbit, a Wolf and a Bear. Each time, the mocking sweetdough sings its song. The Kolobok is eventually tricked into being eaten by a Fox, who claims to be so hard of hearing he needs the Kolobok to sit on his tongue so he can hear it properly.
“I'm a happy Kolobok, so crunchy, sweet and brown.
In the oven I was baked, on window sill cooled down.
I ran away from Dedushka, and from Babushka too.
I ran away from Rabbit, Wolf and now I’ll run from you.”
