Nuwhyre

Nuwhyre is a small oasis settlement nestled within the vast expanse of the Golden Sea desert. According to legend, Bagadan the Waterbearer brought ocean water to this arid land in a magical bottle, creating the lake that sustains Nuwhyre. Remarkably, this lake is a freshwater body, a miraculous source of life in an otherwise unforgiving wasteland. Over time, Halflings and Humans alike have congregated in the desert, drawn to the sanctuary of Nuwhyre and forming a vibrant, diverse community.

The Hollow Hills and Those That Dwell Within

The large body of water, while a blessing, also attracted various desert monsters. For years, Nuwhyre suffered relentless attacks until Flotan Friendmaker, the town's third mayor, took action. With the help of her Kurru'sa (a guardian spirit), Bork the Badger, she created the Hollow Hills, a series of mounds and tunnels that encircle the settlement, forming a natural barrier. These hills also house a massive Ankheg colony, which the townspeople feed and maintain. In return, the Ankhegs defend Nuwhyre from external threats, ensuring the safety and peace of the community.

The Eternal Wanderer

Another enduring legend of Nuwhyre speaks of the Eternal Wanderer, a tall figure in a green cloak who appears to those lost and dying in the Golden Sea. Many have recounted near-death experiences in the desert, only to be rescued by this mysterious figure and guided to safety. These fortunate souls often awaken in Nuwhyre, saved by the Wanderer. The settlement even has a designated drop-off point where the Wanderer is believed to leave those he rescues, further cementing his mythical status in the town's lore.

Community and Culture

Nuwhyre is more than just a settlement; it is a testament to resilience and cooperation in the face of harsh conditions. The oasis not only provides water but also serves as a cultural and economic hub for Halflings and Humans. The people of Nuwhyre are known for their resourcefulness and strong communal bonds, working together to maintain their sanctuary. Festivals celebrating the accomplshments of members of the community, like those of Bagadan the Waterbearer and Flotan Friendmaker are held regularly, honoring the heroes who made their survival possible.
