The Great Drain

The Great Drain is a massive whirlpool in the Southeastern region of Eruil. Its powerful, ever-churning vortex dominates the surrounding waters, creating a formidable natural phenomenon that has shaped the local geography and climate. Centuries ago, the immense force of the whirlpool tore a large section of the coastal forest from the continental mainland. This uprooted mass of trees and earth was carried away by the powerful currents generated by the Great Drain, eventually forming a vast, floating forest region known as the Drift Woods.   For sailors and adventurers, the Great Drain is both a navigational hazard and a place of intrigue. The powerful currents and unpredictable eddies make approaching the whirlpool extremely dangerous, and many ships have been lost to its depths over the years. Tales of sunken treasures and ancient artifacts hidden within the Great Drain's maw fuel the imaginations of treasure hunters and explorers, despite the peril involved in such endeavors.

Mystical Significance

The Great Drain also holds a place of mystical significance in the folklore of the region. Local legends speak of it as a gateway to other realms, a place where the boundary between the material world and the spiritual world is thin. Some believe that the Great Drain is a manifestation of Ruu'e's immense power. Shamans and druids from nearby communities often conduct rituals and offer sacrifices to the whirlpool, seeking to appease the spirits they believe reside within its depths.

Environmental Influence

The constant motion of the Great Drain affects the local climate, contributing to the formation of dense fog banks and sudden storms that can arise without warning. The surrounding waters are rich in nutrients, supporting a diverse array of marine life. Schools of fish, marine mammals, and even some rare and magical sea creatures are drawn to the area, making it a hotspot for fishing and marine research.
