Jaune Arc

Jaune Arc is a student at Beacon Academy and the leader of Team JNPR. Jaune was never properly trained and applied to Beacon with false transcripts, surviving Beacon's initiation yet finding his way to the bottom of the class.

Biography

Early Life

Jaune Arc was born on August 8th, 63 AGW in Ansel, Arcadia Province in Northern Vale, as the 6th child of Mason Arc and Estelle Arc nee Pluie. The only boy in a family of 8 children, Jaune spent most of his childhood in awe of his father and other Huntsmen, trying to wriggle out of the dresses and pigtails his sisters frequently forced him into and wriggle into the stories and legends of heroes of old. While the Arc's came from a long line of warriors, Mason refused to train his son or enroll him in any primary combat skills, which would be a continuing source of tension between the two.
Throughout his childhood and early teens Jaune was characterized by his peers as gregarious yet awkward, friendly to most but close to few outside his nuclear family. Jaune was characterized by most of his teachers as an above average student who was disinterested in civilian studies. While never given combat training, Jaune participated extensively in various athletics, distinguishing himself in none but maintaining a high level of general fitness.
While Mason was often away from home on missions, Jaune was especially close to his mother, Estelle, which strained his relationship with some of his sisters, who resented the special treatment given to the 'momma's boy'. When his eldest sister, Saphron, came out as a lesbian, Jaune was the first member of the family to accept it without reservations and acted as a bridge between her and the rest of the family during the following awkward months. Lavender Arc, the youngest daughter, also idolized her older brother. His other younger sister, Azora Arc, had the coolest relationship with her brother- at one point he had tricked her into eating a worm and this was frequently brought up in disputes.
Estelle insisted on teaching all her children how to cook, clean and manage basic finances. At some point she pushed Jaune to learn guitar, which he was never especially good at, though her would learn enough to entertain the family on their frequent camping trips to his mother's home village of Shion. The Arcs would also have a family dog named 'Chipper' who would die when Jaune was 11.
As Jaune grew older, he would frequently be 'befriended' by men interested in his sisters, though attempts to use him as a back door into their pants would typically fair spectacularly. Jaune would himself express an early and healthy interest in the opposite sex- an interest his father was happy to support. While giving his son detailed and often graphic tips on how to please women in the bedroom- although his advice on getting them there, beyond 'just be confident' was rather sparse, as that was supposed to be 'the easy part.' Still, clumsy as his attempts at seduction were, by the time he arrived at Beacon he had accumulated some sexual experience. By the age of 15 he and Saphron would frequently wing for one another when approaching women, and during a visit to Saphron's home in Argus he hit on a young woman named Terra Cotta, who passed him up in favor of his sister and would ultimately become her fiancé- neither woman would let Jaune live the experience down.

Coming to Beacon

A few weeks after his 17th birthday, Jaune had a conference with his school's guidance counselor, where he confessed his only career ambition was to become a Huntsman. After agonizing over the approaching deadline for application to Beacon and his utter lack of qualifications or other goals, his mother and father suggested he should become a house husband and focus on continuing the Arc name. Jaune responded to this by stealing Crocea Mors, a family heirloom from his great-great grandfather, Valerian, and running away from home. He would manage to acquire falsified transcripts from Hearth Academy from the information broker Hei Xiong Jr.
After arriving at Beacon, Jaune would form a fast friendship with Ruby Rose, and develop an infatuation for Weiss Schnee. His playful flirting with Weiss and Pyrrha Nikos would aggravate the former and intrigue the latter, and during his initiation Pyrrha saved his life and sought him out as a partner. After unlocking his aura, Pyrrha and Jaune ended up taking a 'short cut' to the objective through a cave system that lead into the lair of a massive death stalker. As they retreated they ran into Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, Yang Xiao Long, Nora Valkyrie and Lie Ren, and after retrieving the castle token, Jaune and his partner fled with the rest of the group, eventually making a stand at the ruins near Beacon's cliffs. Jaune would be outperformed by all his peers in the battle, but would distinguish himself as one of the two leaders of the group, successfully countering the Death Stalkers seemingly impenetrable armor by directing his future teammates to detach the Grimm's own stinger to pierce its carapace. Jaune and Pyrrha passed initiation and were paired with Nora Valkyrie and Lie Ren to form Team JNPR, led by Jaune.
Despite his status as team leader and the prowess of his teammates and close friends, Jaune would spend his first weeks at Beacon consistently at rock bottom in combat standings and near the bottom in academic scores, often being singled out for bullying by Cardin Winchester and other members of CRDL. Pyrrha offered to train him, but Jaune rebuffed her, and admitted to faking his transcripts to get in. Unfortunately Cardin overheard the whole conversation and spent the subsequent weeks blackmailing Jaune into being his lackey, alienating him from his team. After a pep talk from Ruby and a field trip to Forever Fall Forest, Jaune refused an order from Cardin to toss a jar of tree sap at Pyrrha, instead tossing it at the bully. This attracted an Ursae Major to the boys, which nearly killed Cardin. Jaune managed to kill the monster, impressing Cardin enough for the bully to leave him alone (though unknown to both of them Pyrrha had directed and enhanced Jaune's strike with her semblance).
Jaune and Pyrrha reconciled and began training together after classes, and while Jaune has made great strides he still is far from ready for the challenges ahead.
