Moon Hounds

Appearance

Moon Hounds are medium sized dogs that are quick on their feet, have long curly fur and floppy ears. They are bred to be solid black or dark grey to hide in the shadows, but occassionally unusual markings or bioluminescense coloring appears from their Etheri Wolf heritage. In almost all Moon hounds, their eyes glow white or a pale yellow or blue. Due to their size, fur and glowing eyes, they often get mistaken for Void hounds.

Domestication & Uses

There were a few hunters of old that had bred Etheri Wolves with domestic dogs, creating a unique, trainable animal that was highly sought out for hunting and temple guards. These dogs shared the heightened sense of detecting and seeing evil spirits. They are the chosen guard animals for most holy temples and are often used at larger and older cemeteries as a form of alarm if anything unnatural were to stir.
They are trained as a young age to signal when there is a supernatural presence or a concentration of Gosamyr, usually by a specific bark or whine that is recognized by their handler. However, if they are left untrained or their training is delayed, they will have a unsavory signal in the result of biting, howling, growling, and fleeing; a natural fight or flight response. Some have lifelong careers as Royal Whisper Hunters, to keep the royalty of sound mind and kingdoms safe. There are cultures that abhor the Moon Hounds as they are so lost in the Whispers they believe the Whispers are one with them. The Moon Hounds attacking or frightening the Whispers away is more akin to losing a loved one in these cultures.
