Raple
Appearance
Raples are small raptor-like creatures. They are closely related to the wind sprinters, only flightless. Males have a bright colored crest, often orange, yellow, red and the females have a small crest that is blue, green, and purple. Their skin color varies between beige, grey and sometimes black or white. They stand no more than 18 inches tall and are between 24 - 30" in length. They have small sharp teeth.
Social
Raples have a family pack ranging from 10 to 50 members. The largest male is usually the leader of the family group, however if the male fails to lead the family and keep them safe and healthy the family pack will either kill him or chase him off and the next male will lead. During mating season multiple family packs will travel to the nesting grounds to mate and hatch young within the period of 3 months. A clutch of eggs is anywhere between 5-20 eggs with the odds of only 3-7 young surviving to adulthood. Once the young are strong enough to travel, the family packs will band back together and leave the nesting ground, returning back to their territories. During this time however, the adults will try to kidnap the young from other families, to make their packs larger and stronger, but in the process of this adults and young alike often get injured or killed.
