Water Cat
Appearance
Water Cats have a pointed head with small round ears. Their fur colors range from a lighter tan color to an almost black. It is not uncommon for there to be white, tan or light grey speckling along their underside. They have long thick tail that acts as a rudder. There are several sub-species of the water cat, Tropical and Abyssal. The smaller of the species is the Tropical Water Cat. They are typically around 4 feet in length and can get up to 45 pounds. They are normally found in more shallow and warmer waters. They have webbed front paws that have semi-retractable claws. Their hind paws are larger and have more of a flipper shape to them but the size does not hinder them on dry land. Tropical Water Cat have unique coloring markings that are either ticked or striped around their throat. Males are usually brighter in color and are more prominent during mating season.
The Abyssal Water Cat is the larger of the species. They are between 8ft to 12ft in length and weight between 400 to 900 pounds. Their fur is sleeker than their tropical cousins and are usually only dark browns, greys and blacks. They have a very powerful jaw that is designed to tear and crush flesh, bone, and shells. They have unique colored markings as well, typically around their throat and along the side of their bodies and tail. These colors appear to be bioluminescent and act as a way for the Abyssal water cat to communicate to the rest of the pack in pitch darkness.
Social
Tropical Water Cats live in large families ranging between 8 to 20 individuals. They give live birth on land to 1 to 2 kits. Tropical Water Cats are a lot more friendly than their cousins and are tamable.Abyssal Water Cats live in smaller families, typically 2 or 3 mature females and their young, lead by the oldest female. Males will band together 3 to 10 at a time, led by the oldest and strongest of the group. The females will give live birth to 1 to 2 kits. When the kits are at 3 months of age the females will chase off the adult males. The Abyssal Water Cat are stealth hunters and primarily communicate using the bioluminescent lights.
