Rubia

Maggiore

...But I want to touch the big fish, Muuum!
— a fan
Rubia appears to be a mature tursiop dolphin belonging to the pod of Coral.   In the last years of the XX century, she led a group of five other young dolphins to seek contact with the humans that were studying the pod's movement in the northern sea of Onfalu.   The six dolphin looked for any chance they could get to comunicate with the humans, trying to speak in a tone that could be easily heard by human's ears, until a young researcher, Dr. Andria Pinna finally realized the pattern was not casual and started to try to find a way to translate the sounds.   The project quickly expanded and other researchers joined in the effort of translation and soon all of Rubia's dolphins were paired with humans and the codification (and somethimes on the field creation) of d-limba could speed up.   The interest of the Navy lead to Rubia the title of Maggiore and the role of leader and first trainer of the base pod.   It's still not clear to humans for how long exactly the dolphins were developing the d-limba and trying to comunicate, but Rubia confirmed that she was one of the developers of the original idea and could speak the language from a young age.
-They are smart, Admiral. Why would you think they will follow your orders?   -Why do the men you lead do it, Doctor?
— overheard conversation between Dr. Pinna and Adm. Laura Bonu

The accident
During the early months of her work for the Dolphin Special Operation Corps, she was involved with the accident that caused the death of two of the human members of the First Squad.   The pod was employed in a recon mission close to a petrol carrying ship suspected of being responsible of a spillage close to the southeastern coast of Onfalu. The pod approached the ship with the two human members to provide nearby support on speedboats, while the rest of the crew followed from the distance on the support frigate.   It is unclear what happened but, from the fragments of comunications recorded, it seems that while the dolphins were around the suspect ship, something approached the speedboat underwater and upturned them drowning the two officers quickly.   The rapid unfolding of the event (around 40 seconds from the signal of sos to the interruption of comunications) and the fact that the two officials, who were very vell trained swimmers, had no time to react, made a lot of people suppose that this was an intentional attack rather than the accident it's been filed as.   Some suggested that Rubia's reaction and her order to retreat and assist their companions was very slow and that the two deaths could have been avoided if they had a faster response.   The rumors faded quickly anyway and everyone was again ready to praise her one month later when she independently saved a child from a shipwreck.
