Halfling

Near the end of the Breed War the Archfey attempted to craft a more servile species like the Dwarves. It is unknown as to how they were created but before they could be bound to their masters the Archfey fled. Their first interaction with other mortals was an army attempting to see if the underground labyrinth of the Archfey had been abandoned like the rest of the lands of the Archfey. The commanding officer exclaimed that they looks like Halium or children in High Common, to which the leader of the Halfings took as their name.   The Halfings understand for their species to survive they must serve and they must be trusted. Thus most Halfings will go out of their way to be outwardly kind and friendly though when a Halfing is defending his family he will do whatever it takes to keep them safe.   Halfings were originally created for the purpose of infiltration and assassination and even to this day they are predisposed to the shadows. It has been built within their souls to serve, though they are servile they are not slaves and they will often remind any who make such a mistake.   A few Halfings have managed their independence from the other races by serving higher callings, to some it is a deity while others serve nature or a organization or town as a whole.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Halfings stand about a head shorter than a human. While they may be roughly the height of Dwarves, their slim figures with sharp features are more reminiscent of Elves. Their skin is usually olive, and their hair is either black or brown (though red or silver-haired individuals are not unheard of).   A notable feature of halfling anatomy is their feet. Halflings have extremely thick and tough soles, almost like leather, that serve as a natural shoe; consequently, halflings do not normally don footwear, except when custom or climate requires it.   Tthe average halfling lifespan is approximately 120 years.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Halfling family names are passed down on the mothers side and when two halflings marry the man will take his wives family name. The original halfling names come from the early families taking the closest object as a surname

Major Organizations

Most halfling society is subservient to other cultures the most common being humanity.   Oana as one of the few halfling organizations that promote and protect the Halfling species as a whole. They are a known secret among the halflings and a rumor among the other races. Halflings will spread rumors about mistreated halflings leaving their employer only to have the employer come across a string of bad luck.

Beauty Ideals

Most halflings find wrinkles around the eyes to be a mark of beauty in both genders. Younger Halflings will often use charcoal to draw in such lines.

Common Taboos

A halfling must serve. This has been built into their very being and when a halfling has no one to serve they become more susceptible to any kind of coercion.   A Halfling will try to avoid anything that would scare their adopted family whenever possible and will hide their darker natures whenever possible.

Common Myths and Legends

Many believe that the Archfey will return and force the Halflings to obey.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Halflings have good relations with all other species though due to their somewhat secretive nature they have rumors of being sneaky.
