Juno Floris

Juno Morticia Floris

"Was Juno Floris a real woman? Why yes, almost undoubtedly so. She was born, she was a magi, she died. But was she a champion? A defeater of evil and chosen by the gods? That is rather harder to swallow."   Tsena Juki, Examining Myths and Legends, 2nd Edition

Personal history

Juno was born to Zana and Mikael Floris in the town of Lucera. She had an elder brother and an elder sister, both of whom died of disease before she was ten.   She was likely educated at the local Tapestrian school, as historical records show she was quite literate and magically skilled, and it is unlikely her family would have been able to afford private schooling.   At age thirteen, her parents were both killed after a tax dispute with Thaumarian forces. Many scholars believe this is the beginning of her hatred of both the empire and Thaumaria herself.   At age seventeen, Juno finished school and did not resurface until joining the army three years later. She spent three years training under Captain Gregorio Artem before graduating to his mounted unit, where she spent the next five years.   She saw heavy combat both within and without Haspland but began to feel dissatisfied with the both the military and the government's submission to the Thaumarian Empire. At the age of twenty nine she staged a coup, taking over the National Guard and beginning a campaign of resistance. Within six months, despite forward progress in pushing Thaumarian forces back, she disappeared from her position, leaving her former Captain (Gregorio Artem) in charge.   Little is known about the next four years of Juno's life, barring the following two things. She travelled extensively within the Thaumarian Empire, and an increasingly large bounty was placed on her head. Some historians suggest that Thaumaria was deeply personally offended by Juno's actions during this time.   Whether this is true, or she simply saw Juno as a dangerous upstart who needed to be made an example of, Thaumaria was personally involved in hunting her down.   At the age of thirty three, Juno resurfaced and took control of the Haspland army from Captain Artem. With her, she brought a large force of mixed troops from various nations within the empire, as well as a sizeable Groundless force and several dragons.   At the Battle of Erento, Juno led her force onto the field against the Thaumarian army's most well equipped and vicious divisions, headed by Thaumaria herself. Despite Thaumaria's noted powerful magical skill and seeming invulnerability, Juno was able to strike her down personally, reportedly to the great surprise of the Empress herself.   Juno died of wounds sustained in battle three days later. What happened to her body is unknown, as it was dealt with by a member of her inner circle and never recorded publicly.   Her legacy was obvious, as with the fall of Thaumaria, her empire fell apart.
