Tapestrian Weddings

"And from this day, may the shuttle carry the weft threads of you both across the warp of your lives together. May you remain intertwined forever more - and the mark you made upon each other's lives be seen in the tapestry of the time you spent together."   Traditional Seer's Words in a Tapestrian Marriage Ceremony

Execution

There are two main schools of thought in Weaverism regarding marriage. One is that marriages should only take place between those who are clearly fated to be together. Those who abide strictly to this train of thought will either ask a suitable agency to match them with a partner, or will bring their partner and both tapestries to the temple and have their compatibility checked. The seers warn against likely dangers, i.e. if one of the couple is fated to die early. This does not mean that the couple cannot marry, but it does mean that the couple are strongly encouraged to consider their emotional resilience and capacity to deal with the worst possible outcomes. Many find this service a comfort.   The other school of thought is that by finding a partner at the right time, fate has already worked through the couple. Even if their destiny is for their marriage to end in tragedy, they must see it through. Temple seers are not consulted for compatibility in those circumstances, but many couples will still go to the temple and ask for the blessing of a family seer. This is mostly a formality, as the seer is very unlikely to ever speak out against a marriage.

Components and tools

In Tapestrism, marriage is celebrated with a handfastening ceremony. The fabric used to tie the couple’s hands together is traditionally woven by a family member, although some couples prefer to have theirs woven by a temple seer or a professional. Whilst there are no requirements for the fabric, it is usually woven to resemble both of the patterns given to the couple at birth. This demonstrates the affinity they have for each other, and makes it clear that their destinies are (quite literally) intertwined.

Participants

Once a date has been set for the ceremony, the couple arrive at the temple on the correct day and are ushered into a private room by a seer. They are then bound together in a ceremony, with only the seer present. Afterwards, they leave for a family gathering, where they will sign the necessary legal documents to record their marriage.
