The Cradle of Magic

"To the Lamarah National History Museum for their archives. To the Symposium for their researchers. To Kanri's Coffee for their impossibly speedy delivery.   Finally, to Roxy and Tihomir, for being the best spouses I could ask for, and for letting me dramatically read every new chapter to them no matter the time of day or night."   Yuri Kobayashi, Acknowledgements for The Cradle of Magic

Purpose

The Cradle of Magic is an in-depth history and analysis of the religion of lost civilisation of Lanzathida, a topic brushed over in many texts but never truly collected into a coherent narrative.   A lover of history, Yuri Kobayashi has stated plainly that she wanted to bring what she considers some of the most interesting myths to the world as a whole.

Document Structure

Publication Status

The Cradle of Magic initially was released only digitally, as is the norm for most books. However, due to its surprising boom of popularity, it has been given several special edition print runs.

Historical Details

Public Reaction

The public reaction to The Cradle of Magic took both the author and the publisher by surprise. After a few months hovering in the middle of the non-fiction charts, an effusive review in an interview with famed musician Serene caused it to rocket to the top of the bestseller lists.   The public were taken in by the engaging and entrancing retelling of these lost myths, and adaptions and projects inspired by began to spring up relatively quickly.

Legacy

The Cradle of Magic inspired several other books retelling the myths of other cultures in a similar narrative style, and some direct imitations of Lanzathidian stories.   As for other mediums, Serene went on to release two separate tracks from the perspective of characters within the myths. Rock-opera group Fate Calling turned one of the myths into an album and digital music film.   Most notably, The Cradle of Magic was adapted into a streaming series called Lovers of Blood. While the first season had a broader scope involving all of the gods, by the second it narrowed in on focusing on Lamia, the goddess of magic. It is not a particularly accurate adaption, more inspired by than anything else, but it is immensely popular and watched all over the world.
