Defences

LIL has a domed head and cylindrical body. Huge spider-like legs extend from the body, and are capable of lowering the body to the ground to pick up more passengers. Giant adjustable solar panels affixed to the body provide energy to the laboratory, and the dome's glass is designed to catch and trap solar energy. The multiple legs are necessary for ensuring the stability of the laboratory, and enable it to quickly adjust position or escape danger. Due to the sheer scale of LIL, unless there is extreme turbulence the base holds steady when in motion.

Infrastructure

Unbeknownst to Effra Lysle, her sister Theodrada Lysle is using the Inner Sanctum as a glorified jail strong enough to house Arani (half-human-ish, half spider creatures), and the dome itself has been planted with much of the vegetation natural to their native habitat, the Creeping Forest. Theoretically, it would be possible to store multiple young Arani in the vegetation for experimental purposes, as well as keeping multiple adult Arani in the various cages.
Experimentation notwithstanding, a facility capable of harvesting Arani silk and venom is an incredibly valuable asset. For this reason, the laboratory is fitted with stealth technology and has only been visited by a limited number of people. A technological achievement like LIL should have skyrocketed Effra's career, but due to Theodrada's secrecy clause (and her desire to keep a valuable asset nearby) Effra has been relegated to endlessly repairing and upgrading her greatest creation.

History

The Lysle Itinerant Laboratory (LIL) is a giant mobile laboratory created by Effra Lysle, designed specifically for the conditions caused by the Creeping Forest.

Architecture

The body houses accommodations for staff, vegetation (for consumption and oxygen production), a kitchen, a dining hall, and break room. Just underneath the dome is the laboratory, which includes secure access to the Inner Sanctum, a large area full of reinforced cages suitable for 'larger specimens'. The regular laboratory is where all of the socially acceptable experiments are held.
