Delivery Dragons [WASC2020]

Description

Delivery Dragons are magically powered, semi autonomous delivery vehicles. Powered by magical cores from blessed animals, they are able to deliver parcels letters or even large packages over great distances between settlements cities and even countries and continents. The delivery dragons vary in size based on the needs of the cargo being delivered. There is also additional features for more security minded deliveries, such as extra speed, altitude, and even invisibility.

Background

the great decimation of 1123 CE remove the ability of all fairies to use the power of cores directly. In effect there were no more fairies, but only humans. However there were still magical cores being created and recharged. In effect, there were a whole bunch of "batteries" but nothing that could access the power held within.
Following the great decimation, there was a dark age that rolled throughout saga dorm. All of the conveniences developed in the world based on magic stopped. Countries regressed into a lower level of technology until a substitute for magic could be found.

Invention of Non-Fairy Magical Power

after a couple of centuries, a new normal was formed without magic. However, technology that would become commonly known many centuries in the future had not been invented. It was in the 1300s CE, a (Person TBD) would be experimenting with magical cores and eventually created a non-magical device that could harness the power of the core and convert it into magical power.
The device was called a "synthetic fairy" or a "synthy."

Power Generation

A user of a synthetic fairy would place a charged magical core with in its chamber and then would be able to use that synthetic fairy to perform magic.
As the technology developed more and more complicated magics could be used with synthetic fairies. Eventually the synthetic fairies could power devices and automatons. Initially the synthetic fairies could provide mechanical energy that could power simple machines such as windmills grist mills or anything that a simple combustion engine could also power. It was much later when the synthetic fairies could replicate magical spells such as levitation invisibility and the like. And then even farther down the road an electrical core could be used as an electrical source that could power electronic devices and computers and similar electronics in a modern era.

Propulsion

The delivery Dragon propulsion is provided by a synthetic fairy device built with in the wings of the Dragon. The larger the delivery Dragon or the farther distance or speed the Dragon needs to travel, the more synthetic fairies can be built within the wingspan. This propulsion is a part of the second generation of synthetic fairies that could harness magical spells and have them applied to mechanical devices, such as the delivery Dragon.

Weapons & Armament

The security features of the delivery Dragon depended upon the security needs of the cargo being delivered. The highest security delivery dragons belong to the embassy's between different countries. These delivery dragons had extra synthetic fairies for speed, altitude, and invisibility. Military applications of the delivery Dragon eventually included the ability to magically cast defensive spells or offense of attacks such as lightning bolts, water cannons, fireballs, or metal projectiles depending on the element of the core that is built within the weapon.

Armor and defense

The delivery dragons were made primarily of high carbon steel that could withstand simple attacks and protect the cargo within in case of a tragedy. The greatest defense that the delivery dragons have is that they are silent and depending on the model and security invisible.

Communication Tools & Systems

As atomoton vehicles there was no communication devices within the delivery Dragon themselves.
There are systems built within the delivery Dragon to be able to set mission parameters so that the cargo can be delivered safely. The primary system is navigation where the coordinates of the destination are and also the delivery.
A secondary system on delivery dragons includes the security of the cargo. This system would control invisibility and weapons if installed upon the delivery Dragon.

Sensors

A close cousin to the delivery Dragon, is the surveillance Dragon. The surveillance Dragon has little cargo space but has the ability to monitor or surveilled specific locations. Early versions of the surveillance Dragon was purely magical where the Dragon could be flown over enemy territory and monitor on movements from a high location. The visual sensory information from the surveillance Dragon had to be observed in real time by a military or government official or intelligence officer to record and communicate the observed information. During the third generation of the synthetic fairy where electronic will devices were incorporated, recordings of the video information could be stored on the Dragon and then watched at the convenience of those using the surveillance Dragon.

Hangars & docked vessels

A network of delivery dragons has been established by its inventor (Name to be determined) where those desiring to have a packaged delivered can pay postage to have their parcel delivered as far or as near as needed.
Governments may have created their own networks of storage locations for their delivery and surveillance dragons based on their needs. Delivery dragons are a private sector endeavor for the general use of the citizens of the various countries of saga dorm.
