What to expect when your expecting.... a fairy. [WASC2020]

There are no biological differences between the humans and the fairies on the world of saga dorm. The only difference between them is that the ferry can perform magic where as the human cannot.
Vola was the first ferry to be created during the events of, the runaways hope. As Vola was the only fairy, there were no other fairies to be able to have children with. Vola did eventually marry and and have children. Due to the strength of the ferry blood within her all of her children were able to do magic. As the generations passed on and intermarriage between humans and fairy were the only way to cause the the magic to propagate throughout the world the ability to do magic was spread through birth.
During the time of the ferry council, the potential for a child to be born a fairy had increased. While there was no ability to determine genetics at the time, it was well known that if you had some fairy blood within your ancestry, your child could have the abilities of magic. Those who were within the ferry culture did keep tight genealogical records and would trace to see the likelihood of their children to have fairies. Strict laws had to be enforced in marriages to make sure that there was no interbreeding or problems where close relatives married and had children.
Non-magical humans of lower classes did not have extensive genealogical records. There could be a a single great grandparent amongst the eight great-grandparents and the child could still be born with magical powers. The genetic traits of the fairies is neither dominant nor recessive, but it is unpredictable.
There were many wives tales told about how to tell if your child would be born with magical powers. It was considered a powerfully good omen to have a fairy born within your family. Many of the families across saga dorm believed that having a fairy child was considered a great blessing from saga dorm, the metal Dragon. In some situations, it is possible that a child of two fairy parents and even for fairy grandparents could be born without magical powers. These families did their best to ensure that this child would still have a good place in society. Unfortunately there was some shame in being a human born descendent of fairies but society did its best to not propagate that belief.
Many of the midwives around saga dorm tried to predict whether the child will be very born. This could include how high or low the the baby bump is while the mother is pregnant or how quickly the baby drops in the last weeks of pregnancy before delivery.
There are four types of magic that are in saga dorm, based on the four elements of the dragons that are worshiped. While a fairy can do any type of magic, they are most powerful in one specific type of magic all of fire earth water and air.
Mothers who experience extensive heartburn believe that they will have a fire fairy child. Mothers who have a lots of morning sickness, equate this to seasickness, and thus believe that they will have a water fairy child. Mothers who pass a lot of gas believe that they will have an error fairy child. Mothers who have a child that kicks a lot, believes that they will have an earth fairy child.
Fairies have a natural glow to their skin. It they are easily identifiable in a very dark room because you can see them sort of glow. The mothers would try to find very dark locations near the end of their pregnancy and have people look into their stomach to see if they see any light.
