Background

Yakov Solokov was a high ranking Ranger in the Veterzemlyan military. His skills as a survivalist and Hunter were on matched. He was often used as a reconnaissance scout during times of war, a hunter during times of hunger, and a trainer of new Rangers as he aged.
At the time of his accused crime, Yakov was serving as a trainer at the Ranger college extension in Veterzemlya.

Crime

There are two accounts of the crime committed that led to Solokov's conviction and punishment.
According to official government documents made available through court records, Yakov Solokov was convicted of insubordination, treason, his primary accuser was Judge Nestor Viktorov. Solokov counter claimed that Judge Viktorov was corrupted and was using the Rangers as a personal assassins for hire team. He believed that Viktorov was responsible for many of the suspicious deaths and disappearances of political rivals and those who would hinder his assent to power.

Trial and punishment

The trial, to the most common observer, was very little more than an extravagant display of the hysteria that could surround very public accusations. Some observers noticed that The panel of judges who sat to conduct the trial may have been biased in favor of Judge Viktorov as they saw anything that diminished the power or influence of a judge could negatively impact them. So most of the rulings were in favor of the judge and to the condemnation of Solokov.
While not an influential body, fairies from the Fairy Council recognize the potential for corruption with in the Veterzemlya in judicial system. One fairy, in particular, thought that Solokov was receiving an unfair judgment and punishment.

Legacy

Corruption was discovered as with the death of the ambassador, those who feared him were willing to come out. This lead to a purge of corruption within Veterzemlya
