Malen School of the Arts
Founded 17 July 1717, Malen School of the Arts was founded as a separate entity from Malen School of the Sciences (affectionately known as Malen Sci by its attendees). Similar in structure to Malen Sci, Malen Arts had five houses for students to be placed into from the first night of their time in the castle at age 13 to the time they graduate at age 19.

Five Houses
Garanea, Cobbleton, Lockris, Vanderleight (pronounced Vander-light), and Seafet.Five Kinships (30 June 1865-30 June 1867)
None of the names changed when the Malen Arts faculty decided to call the houses "kinships"--the new term was meant to foster more intermingling and familial-like relationships between each house. Only three of these kinships are in place today: Garanea, Cobbleton, and Lockris. Vanderleight was once the most sought-after kinship for students, if not only because of its decorative grandeur, but it outlasted the Seafet by nearly 30 years. Hardly anything is known about the fifth kinship, as it only lasted three more years after the kinship adjustment, until 1870.Each student who chooses to attend Malen Arts--many times simply shortened to Malen--receives a welcome package containing a welcome letter, a few getting started instructions, papers providing a brief explanation of each kinship, and a special gift depending on the student's Season.
As they prepare to begin school at Malen, each student will consider what subject they would like to concentrate in. Though many classes are shared between students, their choice of specialization will allow them to interact with more people outside of their kinships, Season, and year. Kinships are not restricted to any concentration, but there typically are more of a given concentration in one kinship, and during the selection process, desired concentrations are heavily taken into account.

**Here is the most updated table for the newest concentrations, electives, and required courses for the upcoming school year. We hope that this table provides some excitement and encouragement for when we begin our school year, though we would like to make all entering first years through seventh years aware that this table is subject to change.** ~Headmistress of Malen School of the Arts, Jenna Landfelt~Concentrations | Required Courses | Home Economics | History of Malen |
