Promises to the Gods

When it comes to healing the dangerously sick or other kinds of magic aid, there are plenty of gods that are willing to help, but their aid comes with a price.     Many Farens think that the gods are inherently dangerous and one should never be in contact with any gods they are not intimately familiar with, which is probably a wise attitude. Farens are also pretty individualistic, and like to get their own business done first, before spending time to please the divines. The Faren lifes are clearly more safe, but also considerably less exiting.   The divines of Salan are pretty untrustworthy and malicious as their nature. They love to get promises from the mortals and then watch them as they try to fullfill impossible tasks. The gods also like worldly gifts such as money and sacrifices of blood. They also love seeing the people just generally devout their time to them.   The promises given lightly are often just a general nuisance. Maybe the patient has to spend a few months making pilgrimage to random places (instead of lying sick) or never again eat shellfish of Tuesdays. Zeribians are pretty used to these though, and most of them have some kind of weird religious rules they are following.   If someone happens to be as unwise the break the promises given to the gods, they are quick to find other devoted people to find the individual, and make their life very difficult. In the Zeribian culture it's very imprortant to be a loyal and trustworthy citizen.   In a nasty case a person can also be possessed by the divine. It's considered to be an honor, but the person usually loses all the control over themselves at least temporaly, which is quite inconvenient. The posession can get the person killed or injured, but they can also just end up in problems for not showing up to their mundane responsibilities.

Thanks! I love how it gave me new ideas, even though the quality of the writing is still horrible XD
