lirdarads-Lasa

A lirdarads-Lasa (lit "Promise jar"), also known as a Ukis-lasa (lit. "Prayer Jar") is a ritualistic object (usually a clay jar, but sometimes is a wooden box) created for the purpose of storing things intended to be scarified to the divines at the end of a journey from an oasis-hold to another.   The practice dates far back into the very beginnings of Salthan culture, though then it centered around giving to a specific regional divine until the religious unification just before the united kingdom period. Travel across the desert wastes is dangerous, and it was thought this sacrifices would protect from bandits, sand wurms, anomalies, sand storms and getting lost.   The jar or box itself is ornately decorated with depictions of the five divines on it. Typically a prayer jar counts between 5 (1 silver lunar) to up to 25 (1 gold solar) dokas.   Typically a lirdarads-lasa will hold five objects:
  • A Ukis-ushergnaks, a scroll with a prayer poem written to Kai, the divine of knowledge, asking for guidance on the journey. This is typically burned.
  • A bit of metal, or metallic coins to offer a the temple in the city, as homage to Kakela, divine of protection
  • A game, such as a set of dice or cards, for Lykei, divine of the wind and the wastes. This too is typically burned, or left in the desert near the end of the journey,.
  • A small skin of water for Gikara and Gikari, the divines of water. This is divided amongst the priests.
  • A small jar of oil for Rela, the divine of the sun, used to keep the enteral fire at a temple of Rela lit.
