Avenna Turillius Plurumus
General introduction
Avenna Turillius Plurumus was a consul of the state of Tebrina in the Confederation of Tarrabaenia at the end of the first third of the Era of the Earth. He was not only a politician, but also concerned with and eager to strengthen Tebrina's power.
Being set on exploration and personal success, he decided to venture east, past the Sévo Mountains, to get access to new resources on the far side of the mountains or to find better trade routes to the north. In his endeavours he discovered the upper and middle run of the Paunis river and made first contact with the Madini to the east.
Family background and personal life
Avenna was born into a rich aristocratic family and with that his way was set for success. He rose through the ranks quickly, boosted not only by his family's status, but also by his natural drive to accumulate accomplishments and success. With only 42 years of age, he became consul. Although the age limit for this position was at fourty years, noone before him was so young when attaining the title.
He was also a bit ruthless, though, and bent the laws to get control of the Tebrinian army under the pretense of nomads threatening the integrity of the borders to the east. In reality, he did nothing but use his family's immense wealth, to pay waylayers to occasionally raid the farms or mines on the eastern borders. This enabled him, with full power over the army, to push forward, far beyond the Sévo mountains, in a campaign he lead himself.
Public life and accomplishments
Avenna took every step on the ladder to the position of consul during his carreer. When he was 18, he joined the cavalry, soon becoming the leader of an assault detachment. It was in this position, that he earned the respect of his comrades by often successfully driving Mdûlûn raiding parties back onto their ships, before they could do much harm. He was especially known for his skill with the bow, which he shot from horseback - a technique still very rare then. During his time as a consul, he lead the troops, which regarded him highly, as far east as to the Paunis river, even discovering its three source rivulets. He had the river made his states new border and established a watchpost there, which would eventually become Remia.
Although he saw the potential of the river, a sudden and unexpected death, caused by a disease prevented him from exploring it further, leaving only behind his personal notes called 'Aré eótés quámce qualitaés é rés' (The lands to the east and their properties and objects).
