Karisam
General introduction
In Mdûlûn Tamôl the word Karisam means nothing more than 'hunter'. Nonetheless this simple designation is what was chosen for a group of professionals specialising on trailing, detaining and kidnapping individuals. It is less an organised guild, but rather groups of individuals having banded together to accept assignments from those needing these kinds of services and willing to pay for it.
Specialisation and cooperations
There are groups of Karisam in every city state of Mdûlûn, all with slightly different portfolios. Mainly though they are employed by private clients who want to get hold of debtors or also scammers they might have fallen victim to. Also missing or kidnapped individuals are a common target for Karisam.
The Karisam operate beyond the borders of their respective city states. Often they do not have or at least openly confess their citizenship. This is a huge problem in public and official life, since in all city states citizens profit from the individual city's laws and rights, while foreigners are disadvantaged. To make up for this lack of public backing, the Karisam are well connected with people from all trades as facilitated by their numerous and manifold customers.
Despite the name, the Karisam are not hired killers or headhunters. They are exclusively trackers and abductors. In case of need, though, they themselves may hire more warlike allies, to aid in their goals.
Role and reputation
While the Karisam are an integral part of the Mdûlûn societies, they are not regarded highly due to their shifting allegiances - often only following the highest bidder. Nonetheless, as the Mdûlûn legal system is always restricted to its respective city state, employing Karisam is a necessary evil when searching for someone who has crossed the borders.
A major problem is, that Karisam are willing to take money but not interested in asking question. This has lead to many cases of harassment and kidnapping unrelated to any previous crimes, but rather to terrorise and enforce power over certain individuals. Nonetheless the Karisam seldom face consequences, being well connected to all kinds of people, be they private or public figures.
