Palanis
General introduction
Palanis, mistress of destruction, is a goddess of many pantheons of Samthô. She belongs to the third generation of deities and was one of the inhabitants of Samthô after it was formed. She, too, fell victim to the conflict that ended in the War of the Gods, in fact being one of the two goddesses, along with her sister Seltada, to witness its very end.
Background and personal history
Palanis was according to some sources, the daughter of Rakkensu and Armasanga (other sources also state Taissen instread of Rakkensu as the father or Taissen as the father and Kudossia as the mother. This makes her belong to the third generation of gods overall and the second generation of gods on Samthô. Palanis means 'destructor' in the language of the gods. The title was translated into Tamôl and thus the meaning has been preserved, unlike many other terms in that language, which have been traded through time.
As things tend to stay in a relative equilibrium, after the gods and godesses of music, growth, sleep and agriculture were born, the triplet of hate, rage and ire and the god of rot and Palanis were next. The inception of gods continued for a while, until a misshapen being called Ikassigen (probably something that either instills fear or envy) ws born. The gods started to become jealous of or angry at each other and conflicts arose at any given opportunity.
It did not take long until the gods fell into two factions, who rallied behind either Palanis and strived to undo Samthô to quench the source of fighting by removing what is fought over. The other half rallied between her sister, Seltada, the 'protector', who wanted to safeguard their world, Samthô. Thus the War of the Gods began.
Aftermath of the War of the Gods and legacy
The gods fought a vicious battle, some by themselves, some recruiting armies from the beings of Samthô, some creating their own new weapons of war, dead or alive. This was the time the first dragons were made, from a draft by the god Bistai, the now so called 'father of the dragons' as the real meaning of his name is unclear. From the war, eight primordial dragons still exist in Samthô, among them Palanis' personal warlord, Narash the black dragon. When the war was about to end, many of the gods, who could not longer stand the madness of the events, had already withdrawn from Samthô, if they hadn't died before. Only Palanis and Seltada, the two sisters, stood tall against each other. In a last ditch effort, Seltada struck down Palanis with her marble mace, the shards of which are said to form Samthôs marble veins. Likewise she was struck by Palanis' wand. The two sisters, sinking into the ground in pain are said to lie below the feet of all, somewhere in Samthô. With their downfall their armies dispersed, among them the surviving eight primordial dragon. They would become the ancestors of all dragons in Samthô and eventually fight the Dragon Wars amongst each other, long after the war of the gods, yet long before history began.
But forces are at work in eastern Erana, working on stirring up old blood. Palanis, the goddess now unconscious in the soil might just be awoken once more...
Children
Hm... Palanis.
