Sanctuary
The world of Sanctuary is where the mortal races, human and inhuman alike, call home. Since time immemorial, the people of Sanctuary have been told of an eternal struggle between the forces of Heaven and Hell, wherein the angels and demons wage a war for the souls of Sanctuary's many disparate peoples. This war, whether real or imagined, has paved the way for all manner of ideologies, religions, and crusades.
Many people in Sanctuary feel that the tales of this "Eternal Conflict" are the result of dogmatic propaganda, or an attempt to make sense of human selfishness and greed. Those who study the history of the world know something darker: that Heaven and Hell are very real, that angels and demons really do exist, and that while those forces rage against each other, no mortal on Sanctuary is truly safe.
