Hayclyonites
Halcyonites are a group of people with lingering mutations from either being a victim of a Mutation spell or a descendant of one. They originate from many backgrounds taking in anyone with the same affliction. Having a reliable social group without worry of discrimination is a major draw for prospective members. They can cominally assist with finding work and housing in a places where people like them are shunned as dangerous.
Halcyonite lifestyle varies from place to place many times they will choose to form enclaves and communes even when the local community is welcoming to with those with that type of chronic disease. Their culture focuses on a blending of their culture of origin and the invocation of local protection spirits and an almost unconscious shunning of modern magical professions making them superficially resemble anti technological social and religious groups.
The name of the group was derived from a legend about a couple turned into birds by either petty or protective greater spirits depending on the translation. The founder of the Halcyonites was Alabaster Griffin who after being outcast from her town and family, stole the inheritance that was now being denied to her and purchased a large parcel of land employing those that had be unjustly shunned like she had.
Her main philosophies developed later in life, while her earlier letters generally had a dour and defeatist tone. Her later letters after meeting a pair of siblings, that while having fled their town, had not been shunned by everyone they knew gave Alabaster a ray of hope for the future in her twilight days. This change in perspective shows lasting effects in Halcyonite groups. They encourage members to embrace aspects of their culture of origin, celebrate the arts, and study intellectual hobbies like chess.
