Death of Death

The death of death, a day when the lines of death and living blurred and the dead awoken from their slumber to roam the lands; The day Myrkul died… Myrkul was the god of death, a god that didn’t value life at all and actively sought to exterminate life on Treskri permanently. The mortals pleaded and prayed to the divine to help them, to stop the senseless deaths and killing.   Pelor, Pelor, Roa, Mielikki, and Selune took it upon themselves to put an end to Myrkul and thus started the War of Gods. However Pelor and fellow divine comrades killed the god of death. Causing the dead to awaken and walk the mortal realms. They attacked, pillaged and killed many for killing Myrkul and interrupting their peaceful sleep. These undead spread over the world like mold on a fruit, their corruption and unnatural bodies inflicted plagues and sickness all over Treskri.   Talona; taking advantage of the aftermath and chaos, gave the undead diseases and curses, giving birth to new monsters such as lycanthropes, vampires, mummies, ghosts and spirits. Thinking that the creation of undead might be the next evolutionary path. Most of these undead and monsters were purged from the mortal world or sealed away by Pelor and the rest of the Pantheon. However there are still plenty that remain under the soot and aftermath of the War of Gods. As the ash settled it buried artifacts and monsters alike. Sometimes these monsters and undead are released by earthquakes or uncovered by archaeologists.   The Death of Death created a new month; Nelithral, one created to remind the mortals of the kindness of the gods. A month that mortals celebrate as both liberation of Myrkul and his evil ways as well as cleansing of the realm. The purging of undead and evils that roamed the ashen skies. The mortals of Treskri dress up as monsters, play pranks and scare each other during this month to symbolize the evils that walked the lands. It is more than just a playful holiday; of course the pranks and scares are fun and playful but the Death of Death is also a month to remember the loved ones lost. To celebrate the life they lived and to celebrate their afterlife in the embrace of the gods.   The month of Nelithral is 25 days long and the very last day is filled with celebration, music and festivals across all of Treskri.
