Se02Ep03

General Summary

Alright. Gotta get my head on straight. Not gonna be easy, this story was crazy from the start.
To start with, we lost three of our party in the scrum with the wirms (warms?). There was some kinda freak sand storm and when the dust cleared; Kerrick, Maha and Snarl were nowhere to be found. Ark was pretty broken up about his brother, and I was equally devastated that I had to stand closer to the front lines.
Luckily, reinforcements were in order, just not in a way I expected. “George” and his glowing sword popped their heads out of one of the tunnels that the wærms had made. I hadn’t seen him after he sold off those cursed gith weapons in town, but now here he was with another glowing sword attached to another oddball. The second tunneler introduced himself as Eligos, and while I couldn’t vouch for him, George could, and that was enough for me because I stopped caring pretty much immediately after that.
On our merry way down the street, we encountered a group of highborn vampires who were looking to round up some of their feral kin. Not at all foreboding or indicative of later trouble.
Based on our intel, we were a few blocks from Iarno Glass Staff’s hideout. In our party’s diminished capacity, a more cautious approach was devised. I sent my owl invisibly to scout out the location. No Iarno to be seen, but the House was infested with crazy cultist types, which we put to the sword in short order. They definitely had it coming and the ensuing fight was totally unpreventable and had nothing to do with my owl getting blown up.
There was that name again, Baal-Hotep...
Oh well, probably not important.
Ark Suggested a pair of the crazies be our friends, and they obliged about as cordially as one might expect a magically brainwashed killer to do so.
After the fight, we cleaned the joint out and headed downstairs with great trepidation.
...only to find Glass Staff slumped in a post flash-dance pose, bottles strewn about. The sorcerer was clearly in a state of drunken disgrace.
He explained that King Asher was already a Lich, and had been for years. Moreover, he’d duped us into giving him Bo Gentle’s spell book which he planned to use to flood the world in some diabolical land development scheme to reclassify all of his properties as Beachfront.
The hunt for Glass Staff and the desire to keep him from becoming a Lich had been a wild goose chase all along, which we half-heartedly apologized for.
Not content to allow a bad situation to get worse like decent folk would, we grabbed Iarno by the scruff of the neck and set out with him in tow to save the world.
Unfortunately our triumphant exit was stopped short by a clique of feral vampires, which we tried to reason with at first. Our bewitched cultists had the right idea and fired away, but sadly the more civic minded members of our party stopped them, only for the bloodsuckers to attack us anyway. So much for diplomacy.
After the melee subsided, I advised the remaining cultist to go home to her family, which she did. My first victory in this shit show of an evening.
When we got back to the ship, our plans to make a beeline for Asher and broadside cannon him off the face of the earth were put on hold. Captain Wigo found out that SOMEONE had kept Gith weapons and sold them in town, and as a result, he’d fired his whole crew. It’d be another half a day before we could take off. Just as well, since that would give us time to find our missing party members.
In the middle of the night, I was awoken in a cold sweat. Whether it was a nightmare or something worse, I’ve yet to decide. Sudun, the mage in the Pious Nadir contacted me with a sending. The last we’d seen of the witch-hunters, they’d agreed to help us by taking out a coven of hags we’d made an ill-fated deal with.
Sudun’s psychic message tonight was crazy fucking dire. “They’re in the walls! Game over man! They were ready for us! They knew we were coming! The others are dead!” That kind of thing.
I think I’m done sleeping.
