3.3.C Randal and the Blacksashes

The Frostyear Guardians, Book I:

The Heroes of Adrest

9 Ches, 1491. Evening

The last update for you: "Kenris and Rini remain in thier hiding space, as a large half orc man walks past and enters the brewery. You both can hear him bark orders. "Quit loafing around, we got a sale in the works and you know how these red wizards get if you keep 'em waiting! Get below! You can take the new guy with you, let him see how things are really done around here."Randal in maintaining his cover, would follow the group of Blacksashes wherever they were going.   RANDAL: "Did we start moving, or are we still in the inn?"   Oh well past any inn. You left the inn to investigate the home of Letitia Kelsey, found a note there leading to a tree near the Underbarrel farm. From there started digging into the farm. Where you entered the brewery and talked your way into having the guards think you were one of them.   RANDAL: "Sorry, I referred to the brewery as the inn because in my mind: alcohol + fantasy = inn. I meant have the blacksashes lead me out of the brewery yet, and if so, where to?"   Up to you really... Kenris is outside and still hasn't moved, Rini is away. Varian and Saleek have went below and are doing things. It's up to you of you go with the Blacksashes.
You are completely free to go back or go deeper into the hideput like Saleek and Varian did.   RANDAL: "I’ll follow the blacksashes out, to see what they’re up to.   Randal, you follow the Blacksashes, they lead you to the back of the brewery building and through a door that you missed before as it was designed to look like a barrel. In side there is a single chair and a staircase in the back of the room. From there they light lanterns and proceed to head down that staircase.   RANDAL: As he passes the chair, Randal briefly glances over the it, and on the floor surrounding it, trying to determine its purpose, before following the blacksashes down the stairs.   Looking with just your passive perception, it appears to be a wooden chair in the middle of a hidden room. Beyond that small room is a larger staircase of something similar to a white marble that spirals deep underground. There are the two Blacksashes you first talked to with you, and a larger half orcish man.   RANDAL: (confused) *Randal grunts* “Dis place ain’t none too familiar t’ me”   BLACKSASH C: "*The large orc raises an eyebrow at that* hmmm, they never took you below yet, new guy?"   RANDAL: "Naw, dey bin keepin meh up t’ watch d place, but I ain’t seen none o’ what I’m meant t be watchin fer."   BLACKSASH C: "Yes... the point of being on a watch is you don't see nothing strange..."
Blacksash rolls [[1d20]] = 1+4 = 5   The 3 Blacksashes continue to lead you further down a spiraling staircase. You estimate you've gone about 100 feet down when you reach the bottom. There is a single door set into the north wall. It is ajar.   RANDAL: *As he approaches the door with the blacksashes* “So den, what’s dis place for?”   BLACKSASH C: (alarmed) "This is were all the real work... hold on. Why is this door open? *The large half orcish man, extinguishes his lantern and draws a rapier from his belt.*"   RANDAL: Randal draws his own weapon, edging forward into the room behind the others. He keeps one hand free, ready to cast a spell if a brawl begins with the rest of the party.
RANDAL WHISPERS TO DM:
I’d like to prepare an action to cast *prestidigitation* so that, if I see anyone from our party engage in combat, I’ll create a shower of sparks in front of the blacksashes to temporarily blind them.   Okay, ill say the spell is being held. Randal and the rest of the men creep forward into a large open room, perhaps 100 feet long, lined with thick stone pillars. The rest of the Blacksashes duck behind pillars while keeping their lanterns covered. Give me a perception check, with disadvantage please.   Randal rolls perception [[2d20kl1+Perception (Wis)]]=2,6+1=3   You have no idea what if anything the Blacksash saw.
It has been some time since you cast the spell disguise self, Randal. Give me an arcana check to see how well it is holding up.   Randal rolls arcana: [[1d20 + Arcana (Int)]]=5+1=6   Randal you feel the illusion magic of your disguise self fail as you sit in the darkness waiting.
You also hear a voice in the darkness calling your name.
Right now you cannot see your own hand in front of your face. The whisper sounds friendly if questioning. How do you react to hearing your name?   RANDALL: Randal slinks forward. Remaining behind the blacksashes, he positions his rapier such that he can strike immediately should a conflict start.
Randal rejoins the party in 3.3.A Down the Stairs
