The Frostyear Guardians, Book I:
The Heroes of Adrest

Continued from 3.3 The Underbarrel Farm
Below follows a largely OOC conversation regarding the backstory of Admoira the druid, who joins the Frostyear Guardians shortly. I've put you in a party of your own for character creation, say/describe is only visible to you and me (the GM). Charters are level 3 right now. You can use the standard array or roll 4d6 drop lowest for stats. And an extra 1d100 for a trinket if you like. Let me know what kind of character you're thinking of and we'll get you worked in asap. ADMOIRA: (curious) Thank you. I was wondering if Firbolgs are a valid race option for your campaign, as I was thinking of playing a Druid?
If so, I've actually already made a character for another campaign that fell through. She uses standard array and I just have to copy her over here. DM: I have no problem with Firbolgs. There are parts of the planned campaign involving druids so that would easily give your character a reason for being in the general area. ADMOIRA: Groovy, thank you. I'll just copy the toon over then, and level her to 3rd. I'll also roll for a trinket, although I am commuting to work so I'll have to look it up later. Appreciate your help, excited to play :)
Admoira rolls [[1d100]]=63 DM: 63 gives you an alabaster mask.
The party is currently investigating a gang hideout with some underground ruins. So we just have to work out how to work your character into the group. ADMOIRA: Easiest way would be for me to have been captured and held by them, if they are the type to take hostages. If not, I don't mind waiting until a more advantageous time to join. I don't mind waiting.
Figured Admoira is probably just heading out from her parents' grove to find her way in the world and eventually find a new area to protect. She is pretty naive to life outside the little village she knew. Couldn't think of a good reason anyone would want to kidnap her but I'm flexible and am happy with whatever makes your life easier. DM: We can say either she was captured by the gang for getting too close, or she wandered into the ruins by accident. The gang is definately on the lookout for strangers so they would probably drag you in on general principle. ADMOIRA: Sounds peachy to me then. I'll finish up my sheet as soon as I can, on my way to work right now. DM: No problem. Depending on which way the party moves next I'll work you in either lost or captured by the gang.
So for the sake of your wild shape what environments would you say you're character is familiar with? If you local it's mostly farmland, forest and swamp. You could take the form of a cave animal as well if you were interested in just appearing for the party. ADMOIRA: I was figuring I was local, so probably those biomes. If it is easier I can take cave stuff but she probably hasn't really done much cave exploration before. DM: No worries there, just giving you the option of popping out if you like that more than being a captive. Depending on where the parties move, I'll try and work you into the next room. If you were captured, would you be in firbolg form or something else? ADMOIRA: Most likely my Firbolg form, since I probably wasn't expecting to find people here. Also, my disguise only lasts an hour. DM: Sounds good, we'll get you in soon. If you want to join the discord there's a link in the info tab. And if there's anything left you want to let me but not the other players know feel free. ADMOIRA: Thanks! Can't think of anything pertinent to the story right now, but I'll let you know if I think of something. Also, your Discord link expired :( DM: Okay should be fixed now. ADMOIRA: Joined, thank you DM: So as a druid, Admoira (or her clan leader, etc) would probably know that something is negatively affecting nature in the area of the town of Ardrest.
Also that there is a group of druids in the woods to the south. They've never interacted with your tribe, but you have no reason to believe they would be unfriendly.
There's an area map under notes if you need it. ADMOIRA: Sounds good, she'll probably be down investigating what is wrong then, and probably was on her way to the druids to the south to see if they know anything. Are they in Trollbark Forest, or south of there? DM: She wouldn't know the exact location, but believes them to be somewhere in the Trollbark forest.
And it's up to you if you want to treat that knowledge as a quest or just general awareness. Specifically you would know the northern swamps are spreading, crops are failing, and the forest animals are growing more aggressive.
Hopefully I can work you in today. ADMOIRA: Cool, think her main thing will be the swamps and forest animals. Might see if the group would like to try to find the druids as a possible helpful source of information in regards to that. And no worries, I don't mind waiting a bit. Whenever you can get me in is lovely. Thanks ^^
Oh, doing my animal forms and wondered if I would have had the chance to observe a Dire Wolf or a Giant Toad
Also, don't know if you are using the language functionality for this but I speak Common, Elvish and Giant. DM: Languages are set. You also speak druidic. And those are totally acceptable forms, they would both be in the swamps or forests respectively. ADMOIRA: Perfect, thank you. #^_^# DM: Technically by RAW the giant frog wouldn't be allowed until 4th level because it swims, but I'll allow it anyway ^_^ ADMOIRA: Yes, I was planning on taking it next level. Just thought I'd ask now though. Thank you for allowing it early. :) DM: Still working on introducing you... I give the party a light in a dark cave and a cliff with no bottom and they jump off the cliff, lol. ADMOIRA: Yikes And no worries, I don't mind waiting. DM: Still working with luck will have you with a group today… ADMOIRA: (cheerful) All good, today or tomorrow is fine. DM: Finally getting you in
You both creep forward, Varian like a shadow, Saleek only slightly less so. The room you are in is like a large hall, with regularly spaced pillars, that over time either became a sort of semi natural cave, or was purposely built to look like one. The construction appears very, very old.
The northern end of the space is a open arch about 20 feet wide. Saleek is the first to pick out of the pair of rough looking men in the darkness. One of them is holding a lantern, and the other a chain. The other end of the chain is wrapped around the hands of a shaggy humanoid figure so large it dwarfs the two men.
So with thier next action I will probably have you introduced. Sorry about the delay.
Should get you in any time now
