3.5 Under the Underbarrel: the Boss
The Frostyear Guardians, Book I:
The Heroes of Adrest
9 Ches, 1491. Mid/late evening
The tunnel to the south stretches on for about 50 ft, low burning lanterns line the dirt and wood walls. To either side of the passage are openings that lead to small dug out rooms. At the end of the hall a solid wooden door has been set into the wooden supports of the wall. A heavy iron padlock is on the door. All of you can make a perception check if you like. PERCEPTION
Rini rolls perception check [[1d20+Perception (Wis)]]=19
Admoira rolls Perception: [[1d20+Perception (Wis)]]=14+5=19
Randal looks about, rolling [[1d20+Perception (Wis)]]=11+1=12 to spot things.
Kenris rolls [[1d20 +Perception (Wis)]]=9-1=8
Saleek rolls [[1d20+Perception (Wis)]]=17+4=21 You all are quite on alert after the last series of traps and ambushes. You make your way carefully down the hall. The rooms off the main all mostly contain crates and bunked bed; you gather that this area is where most of the gang sleeps. At its peak, you estimate that perhaps 2 dozen people could occupy this hideout. The rooms are currently empty.
As you approach the door at the end of the hall, you can feel a faint draft of air, and with it can locate another concealed door to your right.
To your left is a heavy wooden door, of obviously higher quality construction. There is a heavy iron padlock on the door. You also take the time to inspect the door, and are almost certain it is trapped. ADMOIRA: Admoira backs away, chewing nervously on her thumbnail. She looks to the others.
(nervous) "I know not much of such contraptions, having only seen a few crude traps set by poachers before. I shall keep out of the way and let you handle it." SALEEK: "Varian, think you'll have any luck with this?" VARIAN: "I will see what I can do."
Varian attempts to disarm traps. [[1d20+5]]=18+5=23 and pick locks [[1d20 + 5]]=20+5=23
Deftly disconnects the wire which leads to a hidden crossbow in the ceiling. He is able to pop the lock off as well with ease, ending up with a solid metal lock in his and if anyone wants it. RINI: "What is the plan here? Assuming their leader is in this room, do we ambush them?" ADMOIRA: (doubtful) "I would give them a chance to surrender peacefully, though I doubt they will. Perhaps immediate violence is necessary..." SALEEK: "Anyone who would abduct a small child is asking for an arrow through the heart...let alone someone who would put another person in chains." ADMOIRA: Admoira fidgets with her skirt, nodding sadly.
(sad) "I feel in a short time I have forsaken all of my mother's teaching, but I agree. We should just kill them." SALEEK: (brooding) "It wasn't always this way, I didn't always resort to killing first. But I suppose if you witness enough atrocities, it's only a matter of time until you change your mind." RANDAL: (doubtful) “Takin’ th’ high road isn’t always an option. When a child’s life is at stake...”
“Hey, lighten up. We never got nowhere by poutin’ about on th’ job.” *(Randal expends a bardic inspiration die on Saleek)* KENRIS: (brooding) "I hear your plight Saleek, sometimes even the gods have no interest in the affairs or mortals. So sometime to indiscriminatly murder someone has its own merrits."
(brooding) "Praying for retribution from a diety that won't even listen in your time of need, even when you need it the most ,is mostly pointless" ADMOIRA: Admoira nods grimly and squeezes Saleek's arm gently.
(tense) "They are right, we must attend to this now." KENRIS: "And attend to it we shall. how are we doing this?? Do I need to lead the way?" ADMOIRA: (serious) "I can assume the form of a wolf again and lead if need be. Most men seem to hesitate when a large beast is bearing down on them, especially in such a place as this..."
She gestures towards the rough-hewn walls of the cave. RINI: "I know I did when I first saw you. Is anyone able to snuff out the torches in the next room at once? Perhaps Saleek can ambush them in the dark and then I can light the room with my Dancing Lights?" ADMOIRA: (confident) "Indeed, I am quite capable of such a feat." RANDAL: (impressed) “I’ve only ever managed one at a time, but I’ll help fer what it’s worth.” RINI: Rini pops his familiar owl out onto his shoulder.
(confident) "Saleek, I take it, even through my owl's eyes I will not be able to see you? But I should be able to see you hit your target. Once you do I will light up the room allowing everyone else to attack." SALEEK: "I like where everyone's head is at. Admoira, I would recommend taking your most powerful form.
Rini, that sounds like a solid plan, I'll attack, and then everyone jump in. Lighting the room up can only help us.
(confident) Snuffing the candles out seems like a good idea, but it might give away the element of surprise. Going off your previous perception rolls, the wooden door is well made, but you can see a dim light through the cracks. There is no noise of people in the area. SALEEK: "Well, it's now or never..." ADMOIRA: Admoira nods, then takes up a position near the door to rush in after Saleek attacks. Kenris bursts through the door hammer raised. Beyond the door is a small single room, the walls are made of rough hewn wood and almost totally covered in various scraps of paper, maps, and drawings.
At the rooms single desk sits a single halfling man, lit by a single candle. His blonde hair is turning gray, and spectacles are on his face. He looks up with a look of suprise on his face. KENRIS: (disapointed) "This was not what I was expecting. Who might you be stranger?" ADMOIRA: Expecting something more stabby-shooty, Admoira pokes her head into the room to see what is going on. SALEEK: Saleek fixes his arrows on the halfling. A Keen eye trained on the man.
(treatening) "My friend asked you a question, I suggest you answer it before you become a pin cushion." VILNEK: (alarmed) "Ahhhh... d- don't hurt m- me! I'm Vilnek... I- I'm not like them don't hurt me! W- who are you w- with?!"
(worried) "W- we can talk, right? I don't want to die... I'm just a s- scribe!" The man holds his hands in the air. He wears the sort of clothes that would be indicative of the middle class; a well made but slightly threadbare baggy tunic that is stained and ripped in a few places. The desk, the the walls are covered in various papers, all covered in small handwriting. RINI: Seeing little threat here, Rini behind having a closer look at the papers on the wall. ADMOIRA: Admoira sees if she can detect any falsehood in the Gnome's words: [[1d20+Insight (Wis)]]=19+5=24
GM rolls [[1d20+8]]=16+8=24 Being intimately familiar with non-verbal communication from animals, Admoira, you have an instant feeling that this halfling is not trust-worthy. Though you cannot say exactly why. RINI: Rini rolls intelligence [[1d20+4]]=19+4=23 ADMOIRA: Admoira leans down and whispers into Saleek's ear.
(tense) "This one speaks lies, though I know not which of his words is the falsehood..." SALEEK: Saleek steadies his aim and whispers an incantation.
(threatening) "# **TRY** ***AGAIN***"
(threatening) "# I do not take well to liars and deceivers, so we'll start someplace simple.***Who are you***" KENRIS: (annoyed) "My friend here does not take to lies as good as you would have thought. Please try again or I will make sure your soul will not be accepted by any god when I'm done with you. So Vilnek what will it be" ADMOIRA: Admoira says nothing, but sticks her tongue out at the halfling in a particularly forceful manner. Rini, you can tell that what has been written on the walls represents some sort of research, however, a mess of disorganization. Lines of charcoal have been drawn from paper to paper and span across the walls connecting documents in ways that are either genius or madness. There are maps, ledgers, handwritten notes, scraps of fabric, dried flowers.
You are pretty sure you can, with a little bit of time, at least make some sense of the mess. VILINEK: (impressed) "*The halfling's look of panic fades away, replaced by grim, hardened eyes.* I should have known they would have sent their most clever assassins after me after all." SALEEK: Fires an arrow at the halflings leg [[1d20+8]]=5+8=13
Saleek rolls Inspiration dice [[1d6]]=6
Saleek rolls [[1d8+1d6+6]]=6+5+6=17
(threatening) "{You didn't answer my question...}" The halfling man throws himself to the side just as Saleek looses his arrow, the arrowhead cuts into the meat of the small man's thigh (he takes the uncanny dodge reaction). He hits the ground and comes up in a fighting stance, a wicked looking blade in each hand.
I'm going to need you all to roll Initiative. INITIATIVE
Kenris rolls [[1d20]]=3
Admoira springs into action: [[1d20+Initiative]]=13+2=15
Vlinek initiative: [[1d20 + Initiative]]=10+4=14
Rini rolls initiative [[1d20+1]]=15+1=16
Saleek rolls [[2d20D1+Initiative]]=10,15+6=21
Varian rolls initiative: [[1d20 + Initiative]]=12+1=13
Randal rolls [[1d20+Initiative]]=16+2=18
Randal forgot that the initiative pendant gave him advantage [[1d20+Initiative]]=3+2=5 SALEEK: Saleek Looses two arrows in quick succession [[1d20+8]]=16+8=24 [[1d20+8]]=2+8=10
Saleek's first arrow finds purchase [[1d8+1d6+6]]=5+5+6=16
Saleek then springs as high as he can into the air. You are in a relatively small underground room, you can take to the air, but you're only a few feet off the ground. The beating of your wings causes the papers in the wall to flutter wildly.
The small halfling man again rolls with a fluid grace, Saleek's arrow finds it mark but fails to strike as deeply as it should have due to the man's movements [uncanny dodge]. RINI: Rini makes some hand motions and speaks his incarnations for scorching Ray. He fired all three at the halfling.
Rini rolls 1st ray: [[1d20+6]]=18+6=24 to hit; [[2d6]]=5+3=8 fire damage, 2nd ray: [[1d20+6]]=10+6=16 to hit; [[2d6]]=1+2=3 fire damage, 3rd ray: [[1d20+6]]1+6=7 to hit; [[2d6]]6+2=8 fire damage RANDAL: How is he positioned in relation to the rest of us? Rini makes his gestures and three beams of fire burst from his hand, two striking the small man and one going wide and hitting the paper covered wall behind which begins to smolder.
The room is fairly small about 15 x 15, with a desk opposite the room. The halfling was sitting behind the desk and is now slightly to the side of it as he attempted to dodge away from the attacks. When the door was kicked open, Saleek, Kenris, and Admoira rushed in, and Rini came in later to examine the walls.
Randal and Admoira still have a chance to take their turns. RANDAL: Randal jumps up on the desk, shortsword pointed downwards towards the halfling intimidatingly.
“Yer tongue and body are quick fer a cowardly an’ dishonest scribe, I’ll give ye that. I’d like t’ see if yer slippery mind can match that pace!”
targets the halfling’s mind with vicious mockery. He must succeed a DC13 Wisdom save or take [[1d4]]=3 psychic damage and have disadvantage on his next attack roll. Vlinek rolls to resist Randal's magic: [[1d20 + WIS Save]]=13+0=13
Ties favor the roller, so he manages to shrug off the magic of your spell. ADMOIRA: Admoira pulls a small piece of metal from one of her pockets and holds it up, focusing on it. (angry, Druidic) "By nature's strength, I bind you. Be still as iron."
Admoira casts [Hold Person], forcing the Gnome to make a DC13 Wisdom save or be paralyzed.
She then uses her bonus action to shift into a Dire Wolf. If the spell holds him, she will maintain it via concentration. VLINEK: Vlinek rolls to resist magic [[1d20 + WIS Save]]=19+0=19
"Vilnek" stiffens momentarily, but remains able to move despite Admoira's spell.
(passionate) "*The small man has a wild look in his eyes as he regards the party.* I don't know what the price of all of your souls was, but I hope your dark masters paid well! I won't let you have your way!" He reaches into his oversized tunic and pulls out a ceramic sphere. As he throws it to the ground in the middle of the room it explodes into flames below Saleek.
Vlinek rolls DEX save: [[1d20 + DEX Save]]=13+7=20
Admoira rolls DEX save as dire wolf: [[1d20 + 2]]=15=2=17
Saleek rolls Avoid the explosion, DEX save: [[1d20 + DEX Save]]=13+6=19
Rini rolls Avoid the explosion, DEX save: [[1d20 + DEX Save]]=8+1=9
Randal rolls Avoid the explosion, DEX save: [[1d20 + DEX Save]]=16+4=20
Kenris rolls Avoid the explosion, DEX save: [[1d20 + DEX Save]]=1+0=1
Vlinek rolls [[3d6]]=5+4+2=11 Rini and Kenris are caught in the bomb's blast and they take 11 fire damage. Additionally the paper lining the walls of this room begins to smoke and burn as a result of the explosion.
In the smoke and confusion, the small man attempts to make it to the door of the small room but cannot quite manage to weave between all of you.
Kenris it is your turn followed by Varian. KENRIS: Kenris Tries to stop him in his tracks with his warhammer [[1d20 +5]]=15+5=20
Doing possibly [[1d8+3]]7+3=10 damage Your hammer crashes down on the halfling's shoulder, the blow causing him to at least stumble for a second from the pain.
Varian seeing the chaos and hearing the explosion will stand by the door, ready to block an escape attempt.
That will bring us up to the top of the initiative order: Saleek, Admoira, Rini and Randal all act before the halfling.
As you all close in on the halfling, the flames continue to spread around this tiny paper filled room. I'm going to need everyone to make a constitution save. CON SAVE
Admoira rolls [[1d20+2]]=8+2=10
Varian rolls [[1d20 + CON Save]]=15-1=14
DM rolls [[1d4]] = 4
Kenris rolls [[1d20+CON Save]]=13+2=15
Randal rolls [[1d20+CON Save]]=20+2=22
Rini rolls [[1d20+CON Save]]=20+3=23
Vlinek rolls [[1d20 + CON Save]]=3+2=5
Saleek rolls [[1d20+CON Save]]=13+3=16 Admoira you duck your head avoiding the heat of the flames just barely, anyone who rolls worse than her will end up take 4 damage from the heat.
You can all still post while we're waiting on that roll. RINI: Rini waves his hand producing 3 glowing darts of energy which strike out and hit the halfling simultaneously
magic missile causes [[3d4+3]]=3+3+4+3=13 force damage SALEEK: Saleek winces at the pain, the heat rising, and the flames licking the tips of his wings.
He grabs another arrow and lets loose.
Shoots an arrow [[1d20+8]]=13+8=21
Takes his shot, his arrow finding it's Mark. [[1d8+1d6+6]]=2+6+6=14 The halfling man screams in pain as the magical darts, followed by Saleek's arrow perforate his baggy tunic. Blood begins to stain the fabric. KENRIS: Kenris rolls [[1d20 + Investigation (Int)]]=20-1=19 @Admoira#62248 @Randal#38336 you two should still have your actions for this round. ADMOIRA: Admoira hops over the flames and bears down on the fleeing man. As she runs, she uses her [Hidden Step] ability to vanish before coming out of invisibility as she attacks.
bites at the man: [[2d20k1+5]]=10,11+5=16, possibly dealing [[2d6+3]]=3+5+3=11 piercing damage and forcing a DC 13 STR check or he falls prone. RANDAL: @*The GM*#32171 Oh, sorry, i thought I’d posted.
Randal leaps towards the halfling again and thrusts his rapier forward towards the holes through which the magic missile penetrated.
Randal rolls [[1d20+4]]=1+4=5 to hit with his rapier, dealing [[1d8+2]]=5+2=7 damage on a hit
Vlinek rolls [[1d20 +STR Save]]=1-1=0 The small man is knocked flat by the wolf's savage attack and hits the ground hard. The movement just enough to place him out of the way of Randal's blade. DM rolls [[1d6]]=1
Vlinek rolls [[1d20 +7]]=4+7=11, [[1d20+7]]=4+7=11 to hit The halfling man stumbles to his feet after being knocked to the ground, still trying to make it towards the door. He slashes wildly with his knives, but they find only air.
As he struggles Kenris rushes forward, scanning the mass if flaming papers. With a quick eye he scoops up most of the contents of the top of the desk into his arms and a well marked map off the back wall.
Varian will stay just outside the room, waiting to grab the man if he makes it out of the room.
That brings us to the top of the third round. The flames continue to spread, smoke beginning to fill the confined space. Everyone will make another CON save, then all the party members but Kenris and Varian can take their turns. CON SAVE
Admoira rolls a CON save: [[1d20+2]]=13+2=15
Kenris rolls [[1d20+CON Save]]=10+2=12
Vlinek rolls [[1d20 +CON Save]]=16+2=18
Varian rolls [[1d20 +CON Save]]=15-1=14
Randal rolls [[1d20+CON Save]]=12+2=14
Rini rolls [[1d20+CON Save]]=3+3=6
Saleek rolls [[1d20+CON Save]]=10+3=13 RANDAL: Randal continues his assault on the halfling despite the flames, rolling [[1d20+4]]=2+4=6 to hit, and dealing [[1d8+2]]=4+2=6 damage on a hit He is a small, wiggly one in an oversized coat, managing to dodge some of the multitude of attacks focused on him. ADMOIRA: Admoira attacks the squirmy boi: [[2d20k1+5]]=11,16+5=21, hopefully dealing [[2d6+3]]=1+1+3=5 piercing damage and forcing another DC 13 STR check or he goes to the ground again. Vlinek rolls [[1d20 + STR Save]]=15-1=14 Despite the wolf's teeth digging into his leg, this time he manages to stay on his feet. DM rolls [[1d4]]=4 The smoke and flames wrap around the room, Rini you breathe in the smoke for 4 more points for fire damage, and the coughing will give you disadvantage on attacks this turn. RINI: Trying his best to recover from his coughing, Rini takes out his potion of healing and drinks from it. Rini Heals [[2d4+2]]=1+1+2=4
"*cough* we must get out of here be we all die *cough*" Thanks to the healing potion you feel slightly better, Rini. Are you trying to make your way out of the room as well? RANDAL: Randal uses the cloth from his tunic to cover his mouth, and breathes through it.
(panting) “I’ll happily second that. Let’s be gettin’ outta ‘ere fast!” RINI: Athletics check [[1d20+Athletics (Str)]]=12+0=12 to push Kenris After downing his potion, Rini is able to push Kenris 5 feet towards the exit of the room as he himself stumbles out into open air.
@Saleek [HP: 32/32 || AC: 15]#32184 you've still got your action for this round followed by thr enemy turn, then Kenris. SALEEK: Saleek puts his bow away, drawing his shortsword, and getting in close with the enemy.
Saleek Slashes with his shortswords [[1d20+6]]=6+6=12 [[1d20+6]]=1+6=7 dealing [[1d6+1d6+6]]=6+4+6=16 [[1d6+1d6+6]]=6+3+6=15 damage on a hit VLINEK: Vlinek rolls to attack [[1d20 + 7]]=10+7=17, [[1d20+7]]=3+7=10
The small man continues to duck and weave, he ducks under Saleek's blade and slashes across the bird man's chest with a wicked looking dagger, the cut begins to burn immediately. Saleek make a CON save for me.
Vlinek rolls [[1d4]]=3+5=8
@Saleek [HP: 32/32 || AC: 15]#32184 you'll take 8 points of piercing damage from the halfling's dagger.
@Kenris#35862 you get your turn now, are you still planning on running for the door? Saleek rolls poison save [[1d20 + CON Save]]=17+3=20 @Saleek [HP: 24/32 || AC: 15]#32184 That cut burns but you are able to focus and the feeling fades. KENRIS: Then to the hall it is. Do I need to do something to secure the documents that I'm holding ? Like putting them in my bag? Nothing extra, I'll say you take your action to store the various books and papers away.
Varian will take his chance to fire an arrow into the crowded smoke filled room.
Varian attacks: [[2d20kl1+3]]=14,17+3=17
Varian rolls [[3d6+1]]=5+4+3+1=13
By sheer luck his arrow finds the small target of the halfling man, who screams out in more pain.
We're now at the top of round 4. Saleek, Admoira, Randal, and Rini are up.
Kenris, Rini, and Varian are in the hall and safe from the fire. The rest make a CON save. RINI: "Vinek! We are all going to die in here if you do not give yourself up. I *suggest* you put down your weapons and allow us to restrain you." VLINEK: Vlinek rolls [[1d20 + CON Save]]=3+2=5
Vlinek rolls [[1d20 + WIS Save]]=16+0=16
(suffering) "*Laughs, his teeth stained red with blood.* I'm prepared to die to for them! Are you!? *The words cause him to inhale smoke, and he coughs deeply in response. *"
DM rolls [[1d4]]=2 FIRE SAVE
Saleek rolls [[1d20+CON Save]]=5+3=8
Randal rolls [[1d20+CON Save]]=12+2=14
Admoira rolls [[1d20+2]]=13+2=15 SALEEK: Continues stabbing at the halfling man, with fire in his eyes. [[1d20+6]]=15+6=21 [[1d20+6]]=19+6=25
Saleek rolls Damage [[4d6+18]]=2+6+3+2+18=31 RINI: "Well, do not say I did not warn you..." So failing your con save, the smoke would give you disadvantage, so give me 2 more attack rolls please @Profoundant89#13290 SALEEK: Saleek rolls [[1d20+6]]=7+6=13 [[1d20+6]]=3+6=9 Saleek stabs down into the halfling, one blade finding its mark, the other passing through the baggy coat. ADMOIRA: the large wolf takes advantage of Saleeks attack to sidle in and deliver another attack on the halfling: [[2d20k1+5]]=14,18+5=23, possibly dealing [[2d6+3]]=3+3+3=9 piercing damage and forcing another DC 13 STR save or dropping him prone. Vlinek rolls [[1d20 + STR Save]]=3-1=2 The halfling man screams out in pain as the wolf takes a large chunk out of his leg. His face pales and he stumbles to his knees. He's looking badly hurt.
@Randal#38336 you still have a turn before the enemy gets to go. RANDAL: (mocking) “If yer ready t’ die fer ‘em, then our interests aint conflictin’!”
Randal sees that his allies have lost their patience with diplomacy. He takes his dual-weapons and attacks: [[1d20+4]]=20+4=24 to hit with his shortsword, dealing [[1d6+2]]=4+2=6 damage on a hit. Then [[1d20+4]]=12+4=16 to hit with his dagger, dealing [[1d4+2]]=1+2=3 damage on a hit.
Randal rerolls damage dice for his shortsword crit [[1d6+2]]=3+2=5 @Randal#38336 That is enough to end the halfling. How do you want to take care of him? RANDAL: @*The GM*#32171 On it.
In the unabated blaze of the building’s flames, Randal sees the halfling go down to Admoira’s brutal wounding. Seeing the halfling finally weakened only bolsters his nerve as he charges at the man, drawing his shortsword and dagger as he makes for the halfling’s prone body. In his fallen state, Vilnek has no way of seeing Randal’s approach as he slashes him vertically up his torso before driving his dagger into the wound.
(pressing) "“We need t’ get out. Now!”" Crawling after falling to the wolf's bite, the halfling man hold up his hand to the open door. Just then Randal's blades find his body. As he collapses into darkness he has just enough time to croak out some last words. ADMOIRA: The large wolf blinks as Randal finishes off the gnome before she picks up his body in her large jaws and leaves the room with the others. VLINEK: (suffering) "Malda... Lendi... I should never have... *and he collapses onto the floor only to be lifted into the large wolf's jaws.*" SALEEK: Rushes to the halfling [[1d20+Medicine (Wis)]]=5+2=7
"Shit! We need more information!! Someone help me!!" KENRIS: "I can heal him a bit" ADMOIRA: Once clear, Admoira blurs back into her normal shape and assists Saleek RANDAL: (pensive) “He was willin’ t’ die t’ protect them secrets. I don’t see that he’ll be in any hurry t’ fight his way back t’ life, if it’s only fer is t’ take it anyway.” KENRIS: Takes the halfling by its neck and a faint white yellowish pulse races in to the halfling lighting up his eyes.
(detached) "So let's do this again I'm Kenris, I know how to bring you back from the brink again and again. These are my companions you just hurt"
Kenris stares the halfling squarely in the eyes and shows him a flicker of all the thing that he has done in the past.
(seductive) "You said you were willing go die for your cause and or master. How many time are you willing to do this???" SALEEK: (impressed) "@Kenris#35862 {Careful my friend, this road you travel, is not one easily backtracked...}"
(threatening) "Tell me *half-man* where is the boy." KENRIS: "I know Saleek, the backtracking is not the problem seeking forgiveness is. But let's handle this fool of halfling" The halfling man's eyes flutter weakly open. He has been beaten, stabbed, burned, and bitten. He is conscious but just barely. VLINEK: (confused) "The boy? No... no... they don't take the boys... never have... oh... Goodson? Have to... keep him... with the rest."
DM rolls [[1d20]] = 17 Saleek: "Speak clearly..."
Attempts to stabilize the halflings wounds [[1d20+Medicine (Wis)]]=18+2=20 Although the man struggles weakly, Saleek is able to bandage the worst of the wounds. He seems stable for the moment, though still badly injured. VLINEK: (suffering) "I told them... told them! The Goodson boy... snooping around. Shouldn't have... Ansil will look. H- had to lock them all up... until the festival..."
DM rolls [[1d20]]=1 SALEEK: (threatening) "# where is the boy!" DM rolls [[1d6]]=6 ADMOIRA: Admoira flinches back, standing on the outskirts of the huddle and shuffling uncomfortably. Flinching away from Saleek, he halfling looks around the group, his eyes rolling back, and then settling on Admoira, looking even more unhinged than normal. VLINEK: (tired) "Malda... *he says as he reaches out a small hand.* I didn't hurt them... I couldn't... had to get them away... I could save them... not like you... not like Lendi..."
"*The halfling shakes his head slowly, and points a shaky hand to the north.* The cells... put them there... keep safe... *His eyes flutter closed again, as he breathes shallowly. *" Now that the combat has died down @Kenris#35862 , you are able to look through the papers you gathered. There is a map of the area with numerous marks on it, as if keeping track of locations, some sort of ledger full of names and gold amounts, and what appears to be a journal.
All of which could be better examined when not in the middle of the hall next to a fire and a wounded man. KENRIS: (amused) "These papers could hold the key to this all.
How about we investigate this in a less on fire of a locale" SALEEK: Saleek takes a deep breath, he finds his breathing to be ragged, and is unsure why. Was it the smoke in his lungs, or the rage in his heart. RINI: Rini breaks his lost stare into the room, disappointed that the fire is destroying all of the possible knowledge, research or information in the adjacent room. SALEEK: Saleek nods, avoiding admoiras gaze… RINI: "Vlinek. Who were you keeping these people safe from?" KENRIS: "Admoira I take it you are not used to such violent acts?" ADMOIRA: Admoira quietly shakes her head, not meeting anyone's eyes. KENRIS: "I know I am probably not the one to talk to about this. But I have seen better days if you want I can talk about them." VLINEK: (excited) "*The halfling man had seemed to be unconscious but hearing Rini's question, he lifts his head.* Them! They're everywhere. You... you can't see them, but they see you! They know you!
They're after me... they sent assassins to kill me! I know! I know too much!" RINI: "Well. He has either lost his mind or perhaps there is more to this story. Either way, we should bring him to the authorities to gather more information. Hopefully these captives can also shed some light. Shall we?" SALEEK: (annoyed) "Agreed."
