Were-Beasts
Were-beasts (literally "man-beasts") are a breed of demikith whose origins are, for the most part, entirely unknown. Many theories as to the beginning point of the series of transformative curses have been made - including that these afllictions may have been birthed from the mind of an exceptionally cruel fey or an unknown sort of plague stemming from The Scourge - but none of these may claim to be anythnig other than slightly-educated guesswork and, so far as modern scholars are concerned, the origin of therianthropy may never be determined.
For most who come into contact with a were-beast, however - alongside those afflicted with the mystical condition - the origins of the curse are likely one of the last things which comes to mind, as the horrific transformations and subsequent degradation of sanity could easily cause even the most well-behaved members of a civilization to turn on their friends and families without a second thought.
It is a common misconception among the common folk that those afflicted with therianthropy all bear the same markers of the curse; those being a transformation cycle coinciding with some natural event and certain physical traits in their un-morphed forms (or, in some cases, a lack thereof). Contrary to these beliefs, it seems that the precise elements of the curse may vary from person to person, though tend to say the same among individual "strains" - that is, when a person passes their own curse to another.
